Since there's no real difference rules-wise between the leagues now, they should probably just replace the AL and NL with a "Premier" League and a "Championship" League, and just institute a system of promotion and relegation like in European football leagues. Frankly, tanking teams like the Nats don't deserve to compete against teams that are actually trying.

Even the 1961 Senators, the first year of the expansion team, had better starting pitching. They had Bennie Daniels and Tom Sturdivant, at a time when the starting rotation was usually five. And that team had Tom Cheney and Claude Osteen breaking in.
