Crews would be nice. And we can pick no higher that 7 next year.

we got #2

Twins jump from 13th to the 5th pick

That is insanely silly. Draft lotteries are extremely stupid.

Baseball: We're instituting a lottery to prevent teams from tanking

Also baseball: Pirates get the number 1 pick

Not bad at all!

Lottery is stupid, but I’ll take 1-2.

If the draft was today getting one of Dylan Crews, Jacob Gonzalez, Chase Dollander makes me pretty happy.

Dollander and Crews seem to be tied for #1. First BBA mock has the pirates taking Crews.

Really wanted Crews. Can’t imagine that happens now.

Well, the 1-1 team often plays moneyball with the pool, and the Pirates might like a deal. That said, they signed Termarr for OVER slot last year.

I wish we could just have promotion/relegation and no need for a lottery.

I know we badly need pitching, but I really don't want to roll the dice on a pitcher with this pick.

Reading scouting reports, Dollander comparables are strasburg (with better mechanics) and deGrom

So he's a 50/50 shot of of making half his starts in any given season?

I've lost faith over the last few years that there are any starting pitchers that can be counted on to even average 5 innings/start for a season.      I don't think he's had TJ yet, so he'll certainly take a year off for that along the way.

deGrom was reliable until his age age 33 season. Would take that.

Dollander is a metric-darling with unicorn traits that Rizzo has no idea how to develop in other pitchers

No, the 1-1 team often doesnt. The Pirates and Orioles do

I can't bring myself to say his name without a screen, but 1-2 brings to mind Dustin Ackley

But the last two number ones have not been pitchers.  Just take what you think the best player is.

There can't be too much more of a mixed emotional sentence to hear for a 22-year-old than "You've been drafted first overall by the Pirates."

Followed by the realization that if it takes you 3 years to make the majors, it's nine years before you're out of the thrall of an organization that makes no attempt to succeed in the competition in which it ostensibly competes.

At least you get to play in a nice stadium.
