I couldn't be more down on "arms." Given the "health" history of pitchers today -- unless you luck out and get a throwback like Max -- I'd much rather throw my multi-millions at everyday position players who have shown the ability to make contact.
economically, I wonder if it is most efficient to get a bunch of average to good multi inning arms that are capable of several innings at high velocity, with high end position prospects you can control early. Think Harper, Rendon, Turner, Soto with Tampa Bay's staff, or perhaps San Fran's (not prospects, but cheap signings). Just the downside of expensive, injured or non-performing arms is so high, and the bust potential of high draft pitchers is so great, makes me kind of happy the Nats are going to take top 5 position players Last year and this

Cutting and pasting from the closed game thread yesterday:

An adequate train station and acres of parking? Sign me up

The best part of craphole stadiums is that they don't attract the show-off goer-of-games attendees.  You know them: the (unethical) lawyer loudly bellowing about his clients while hitting on another prospective client; the 29-year-old Congressional staffer falling up the stairs while hitting on a 20-year-old intern; the half-drunk 50-something suburbanite named Lewis taking his wife, neighbor, and neighborwife to the game on the dime of a firm ending in "Capital, LLC" and hitting on anyone who will listen.

Yeah, Nats Park can be such a joy sometimes.  It's almost a relief when the team sucks because most of the above vanish.

This is not unique to DC. Sure the occupations are different, but it’s the same in every city.

Have almost caught Oakland. Most importantly they are 4 games clear of 4th place.

Each of the bottom 5 or so teams has good opportunities to get significantly worse at the deadline, which might make some difference.  Those extra games might matter, as you rightly note.

This is so exciting.  I might have to buy MLB.TV.

The best thing about MLB.tv is that you can watch multiple teams at once.  Imagine being able to look out your window and see multiple bus accidents at once!

If only they had cross-viewing with MiLB.tv so one could compare the Reds and typical AAA teams.

Was not able to figure that out on the Roku last year. It did work on my laptop.

With this win percentage the Nats are on track for a 54 game win season easily making them the worst Nats team ever. It is interesting to me to see that the O's are above .500 and it looks like their re-build is on track though a little slow. I don't believe we will see much improvement in the next two years for the Nats.

And I don't think the signing of Cruz will garner the expected return. Would have rather have seen 2-3 average SP signed as Stras, Ross , Adon being able to perform and a bounce back season for Corbin was simply delusional .

Mike Elias succeeded Dan Duquette in 2019.  Duquette deserves a bit of credit for this team, taking Anthony Santander in the Rule 5 draft in 2017, drafting Trey Mancini, John Means, Cedric Mullins, Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastle, maybe some other moves in the build, but Elias drafted Rutschman, filled in the infield with short term pickups, and pulled together a decent staff out of mostly misfits from other organizations.  Jorge Lopez is a failed starter / stud reliever from 2 other systems. Voth is now starting, 5 games, 3.50 ERA, and they're building him back up to handle more innings (up to 4 & 5 his last 2 starts). Tyler Wells is another pickup, Jordan Lyles was a cheap free agent.

I haven't been either, I just don't want to watch such a bad team. It was so much easier before we knew what it was like to watch a good team.

If we had more young players to follow I'd be more interested. Ruiz, Gray and Garcia aren't exactly thriving right now, and the only possible young guy on the horizon is Cavalli. Just hard to bother watching Soto hit garbage time home runs and a bunch of guys just going through the motions out there.

You all ready for the draft lottery? Can't wait to have the Cubs/Angels/whoever jump to 1-1 and us to draft out of the top seventh.

If the Cardinals miss the playoffs it'll be 900% them.

I don’t understand why tanking is looked at so negatively? As a fan, it’s rough for a while and then as the talent builds up things get better and then you go on your run. Not everyone is the Yankees and dodgers and can just outspend everybody. Basically all they’re doing is hurting small market teams. It’s just dumb.

2 reasons I can think of. First, it really is not necessary and mostly doesn't work in baseball. Houston, and maybe the Cubs, but those teams had a lot going for them besides the high picks. Tampa has had 15 years of pretty sustained success without tanking and they are low budget. Giants aren't built around the products of tanking. So this idea you have to tank and that's a good way to build is not true in a game where your pipeline is your minors and not a bunch of high firsts. Second reason people object to tanking in baseball is it is such a long season and the nightly stink is tough to take

With all the winning lately the Nats are only 3.5 games ahead of Detroit who are currently in the 4th spot. As a recap the bottom three teams all have a 16/17 percent chance of the first pick and then it goes down from there.

12-12 over the last 24, 7-17 over the 24 before that.

We aren't getting the top pick playing like this..
