Adams is just as good as Ruiz behind the plate
I am so looking forward to robo umps.  Both Ruiz, Adams, and Pineda don't frame well.  It'll increase the value of each of them.

Not sure what the stats say but Ruiz seems much better defensively.  That’s vitally important for a catcher.

Yea, I think the bat aspect of Ruiz's game is pretty overrated. Yes, he makes contact. Theres nothing great about that contact though. Its largely weak contact.

He had 21 homers his last partial season in the minors. I don't think he'll ever have a 20 HR in the majors, but he has the ability to consistently be in the double digits and to wear out the gaps.

16 were in the PCL. He's been consistently scouted as lacking power and didnt show any until the minors last year. So Im pretty skeptical of him developing this power.

My point is that by this time next year, we're going to know if Pineda is a big league catcher. If he is, I dont feel like playing the extension/Boras salary negotiation game.

Yeah. It’s too early to say he has no power. And with the shifts outlawed the ability to make contact will be more valuable.

It will be interesting if the bat can take a step forward next year.

I think he could fairly easily have Yadier Molina type power. Fairly consistently in the 6-10 range with a few years in the teens and twenties.

He hit a home run in his first at-bat in the majors.

So did Tommy Milone though.

Ruiz looks like a good catcher who can hit 10 - 15 homers with about .250 - .270 average. That's fine for a catcher.

The question is what to do with Adams and Pineda. Can they get enough starts to develop their hitting? Maybe they can DH some, which will give Davey some flexibility in contrast to having a non-fielding guy like Cruz take a spot.

Was expecting a significan showing of power this season. Especially after last season's minor league performance. Im not panicing but if we're at this point season and he's still posting single digit homers and still in the bottom 40% in EV and hard hit, then I would assume the sub 45 grade of power has come true.

FWIW, 5 of his 7 home runs came after July 1, so the power did start to develop a bit.

I was listening to Charlie and Dave on the radio yesterday noting how Harris of the Braves has never hit for much power before this year and then blossomed in 2022. Made adjustments to where he held his hands before the swing.

Extend Ruiz now. He is a solid catcher and getting better. A respectable hitter. Sign him and let him improve as a Nat, and stay a Nat.
