I wish I could remember where I found the Curly L gif. Seems quite appropriate.

This team is probably the worst in Nats history. They get an acceptable outing from a SP maybe 2 of 5 days and the lineup can't score more than 1-2 runs a game. The entire roster, other than 3 players (Ruiz, Soto & Gray) is either old/bad/destined to be traded journeymen or guys who would otherwise be out of baseball. The closest prospect we have to the majors has already failed in the majors twice. Our top pitching prospect is getting slaughtered in AAA so far. Our only other hitting prospect is a teenager in A-ball, and no one at the AAA or AA level projects as a MLB regular.

At least when Leonsis buys the team he'll tell us to enjoy the good moments and make sure you buy your shirsey for $89 to be MONUMENTAL.

July 20th, 1959, was an off day as the Nats took the train (most likely, the train) to Detroit. On July 21, though, the lost 8 - 1. Still 43 - 48, which would look great from the 2022 team.

Tigers had a 3 - 1 lead in the second, after Roy Sievers hit his 13th homer.  Roy had had his ankle crunched when playing 1B and a runner stepped on it, so he worked back slowly. Take a look at the Detroit OF, though: Charlie Maxwell, Harvey Kuenn, and Al Kaline. Nats' salary dump, Eddie Yost, was a 3B for the Tigers. Former Nats' SS Rocky Bridges replaced Coot Veal, and former Nat Lou Berberet caught for the Tigers.

There are tons of dudes in the minors who can field SS at a major league level but can't hit, and many of them would hit better than Fox does.  His only value is that he's a shortstop who is also really, really fast.
Okay then let's just keep Escobar there everyday

And the thing is in 2009 we had nowhere to go but up, and we got Stras that year and we knew Bryce was on the horizon. I mean those were two of the most coveted draft picks I can remember and it just gave you such hope there were better days ahead, and there were. We did it, we reached the pinnacle! But it makes sucking now so much worse, there's no Bryce or Stras walking through that door and I can't imagine how playing on this horrid dumpster fire of a team is going to bring Soto down, man it sucks to suck again :(

This team is bad. We were 18-42 after the trade deadline last year, btw.

Actually that 18-42 is .300 winning percentage, the exact same as this year.

Or Herbie Plews, an infielder for the Nats, although Coot Veal played on the New Senators (the expansion team) in their first year.

Herb Plews: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vealco01.shtml

Coot Veal: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vealco01.shtml

The Nats also had an infielder named Rocky Bridges: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bridgro01.shtml

And an outfielder named Whitey Herzog, and people might know him as having been a manager: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/herzowh01.shtml

For that matter, Nelson Cruz reminded me of Hank Sauer (the Cubs and Giants' Hank Sauer, not the Yankees' Hank Bauer), so I looked up Hank Sauer. I had his baseball card in 1959, when he was already 42, and there was no DH: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sauerha01.shtml

their consistent pathetic ABs makes ya wonder....why do they have a batting coach, and what does he do?
if he is offering good advice, are the overpaid egotistical players just tuning him out?
I really believe that most if not all of this team needs remedial hitting lessons, starting with recognizing balls and strikes, and applying the simple recognition factor that pitches that bounce in the dirt are not the ones you should be swinging at.....
