Am I the only one who things the guy in bold could light a fire under them.
Yes, because you're the only one who knows who that is?

It's such an obscure cultural reference that few here will get it.  He did this live somewhere or another and it ripped.

Obscure and, ultimately, not really funny.

Source: Ted Leonsis will take prudent steps to see if there is a "fit" with the Washington #Commanders after the team announced that Dan Snyder will explore a possible sale. Source does not believe it changes the Leonsis pursuit with the #Nats

I would think Leonsis would have to have some heavy hitter partners to buy the commanders because he doesn't have close to the 6 billion it will take.

NFL majority owners have to have a 30% stake and they cap debt at 1 billion. Even if he personally takes the whole debt portion, he'd have to sell everything he owns to get to that 30%

I wonder how the Commanders sale will affect the Nationals.

The local NFL franchise could go for more than double, so I feel like it’s two different buyers markets.

If Rubenstein spends his credit and cash on the Commies, then there goes Leonsis 's bankroll

Ted Leonsis laid out a ten point plan for how to rebuild a franchise. This is old but the bottom line is to build slowly and deliberately. Not at all what I want to hear.

I’m sure Ted loves how easy it is in the NBA to be in the hunt for a playoff spot every year. His teams will never actually have a shot at doing anything in the playoffs, and they’ll never be in the mix for a super star in the draft, but they’ll compete every year. I wonder if he realizes just how expensive it is to do the same thing in baseball

I mean ... the same applies to hockey. Almost half the teams make it.

Yep, another perfect sport for Ted. Baseball has a totally different profile

Ted will be voting to expand the playoffs. With 7 teams in now in each league MLB is not that far behind the NBA and NHL.

The NBA has 10 per conference now. Perfect for the Wizards because any team trying should have a chance for the last play in spot

Leonsis has his ring, his priorities are expanding his media company and sports betting.

Unless he’s buying Fanduel, Caesars, or MGM, the ship has sailed on being big in sports betting

Not on brick and mortar operations. The Lerners had plans to build a gigantic sportsbook outside of the right field corner but I haven't heard much about that lately. I assume that the new owner will pick that back up.

Is the in person martlet big enough to justify buying a team?

Doesn’t he also make lots of money from allowing those betting operations to advertise during Wizards and Caps games?  They really push that on the broadcasts and DC is not the only market that occurs. I assume he would do the same with Nats broadcasts if he can gain control of MASN.

Pricing structure for tickets and attendance would be interesting to me. For the Caps he has a built in large contingent of STH although that may change with the downslide of the team.  He has not needed to do anything for years with high demand. With the Wizards he seems to have just given up hope and is happy to accept attendance near the bottom of the league.

No, that's definitely the broadcast rights that are his primary concern, but he's also lobbied hard for legalized gambling.

As much as I loathe Dan Snyder, even more now than I did 10 years ago, it struck me back then that Snyder was better suited for owning the Nats, while Lerner was  better suited to own the Skins/WFT. Even today as a real life Bond villain, Snyder in many ways could become a fan's dream as an MLB owner: deep pockets with a willingness to out spend other teams for players, boredom with and hands off a draft that doesn't involve the promise of an immediate impact player, desire to make a splash at trade deadlines and offseason by acquiring top FA targets, obsessive control over broadcasting. If Snyder was the owner, I could imagine a future where Nats fans would feel about him the way Don Henley felt about their Eagles manager: "He may be Satan, but he's our Satan."
