Having the best coach in baseball is reason enough for me!

When did that happen?

Why? Is he really going to be worse than the Lerners? And we'll keep our talent finally lol

The team sucks right now, but I'm not sure I'd go as far as to call them a laughing stock. The rebuild has put some solid pieces in place, and they haven't been afraid to play the kids, or be aggressive in making trades. They're playing better as of late (won 5 of their last 13) and are showing some promise.

And they were willing to go out and get name players in the past. The run they had a few years ago with Russ and Beal was fun to watch.

Ted's biggest issue on the basketball side has been sticking with coaches (WU Jr.) and GMs who had worn out their welcome.

They were an 8 seed in 2021 and got bounced, prior to that, 2018. The rebuilt took too long to start and hasn’t netted enough to complete. Even for a rebuilding team, there isn’t really any draft capital outside of our own picks. Ted makes bad decisions with star players and with general managers.

The Wizards have been a laughing stock for 40 years. Long before Ted owned them. They did everything the correct way. Got their young guys in Wall, Beal, Porter etc. and then had a butt load of cap space and nobody would sign with the team. They waited it out for KD and he said no thanks. I mean, what do you do in that situation? And then Wall destroyed his knee. I'm not excusing him for how bad they've been but this isn't a Daniel Snyder-type ownership where he's just a total moron. He will spend and he will keep star players. But he will also keep the manager for far too long.

And with that said, the Caps have consistently been great under his ownership. They won a Stanley Cup and are always in the playoffs. I get people dislike him. He's not my favorite guy ever but he spends on his teams. I don't want this team to go to someone like the new Mavs owners or just another group like the Lerners. Give me someone that loves sports and wants to win. If that's ted, so be it.

They have multiple first round picks in this draft and most likely a top 3 pick in a draft with 3 absolute studs. They already have Sarr, Bub and George they added last year plus Bilal who looks like he'll be pretty good. They have a ton of 2nd round picks as well over the next few years that can be thrown into trades. I think what Dawkins has done getting out from under the Beal contract and loading up the roster with young players is nothing short of amazing considering the crap he took over. But we'll see.

uh look at the deals he gave Wall and Beal. Refused to fire Ernie for the longest time with a terrible draft track record. Never wanted to tear it all down. It was all about being just good enough to get some playoff revenue. And I could’ve won a cup with the Caps as owner with Ovechkin. He took too long to fire McPhee. Failed to really address an Achilles heel defense when they had the young guns and the best offense in the league. Maybe he’s learned from some of his failures , but he is a piss poor owner.

Seriously the Beal deal is one of the worst of all time. Still thankful phoenix was dumb enough to get us out of it. It’s the equivalent of making Ian Desmond the highest paid player in the MLB.

I can’t argue with this. But it took 20 plus years for his ego to finally let go and allow for a true tear down and rebuild. I’m just really afraid he would cripple this teams payroll for the sake of being just competitive enough to sneak into the playoffs with no real long term vision in place.

The summer concert series lineup is out...75 more dates and they can just skip baseball all together...

I don't know any of the performers...I guess that's to be expected at my age...

Don’t want to pump up Ted. Took too long to rebuild.  The Arenas and Wall contracts were derailed by injuries. Beal.  Not sure why at that point they paid him big money.

They have had extra draft capital. They had three picks in the 2024 draft first round and all three okay significant minutes. As does the guy drafted round one the year before. Only one pick in 2024 was their own.  And I believe they have an additional first round pick this year in what is supposed to be a good draft.  So some evidence that he has finally hired the right people. He did with the Caps who have been competitive for many years. So hard to say how he would navigate MLB rules. Like any other owner he would need to hire the right guy.

At your age, the musicians want an indoor venue so they can play their 5pm sets and be in bed by 8:15  :D

Sometimes I daydream about winning the Powerball, and then I remember that even if it was one of the really big billion-dollar jackpots, it still wouldn't be nearly enough to buy a baseball team.

The only publicly traded MLB team is the Barves:

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/BATRA/

So for less than the price of a mezzanine single game ticket at Nats park you too can own a share of a MLB team.

Warning, this is not investment advice, I am still waiting for my Terra UST stablecoin to make a comeback:

The A’s are raising equity to pay for their stadium and have been valued at $2 billion, a much better comp for Mini Me than the Orioles $1.7b last year.  Not enough to get him to sell, but give it a few years, and hopefully before yet another salary dump/reboot/rebuild in six years.

All the teams looking for buyers are going to have a tough time selling until MLB finalizes what local TV and the CBA is going to look like in a couple years.   Cable/RSN models look to be essentially dead by then.  If $20/month apps are the replacement, it is going to look very ugly from a revenue and exposure basis.  If they can improve the CBA and get all the teams to buy in on a national streaming deal, then the future is looking a lot brighter to a potential investor.

Of course, there could always be a passionate billionaire fan who really wants to be an owner who is willing to overpay.

The Celtics just sold for $6.1 billion.  Sports franchises remain one of the only places for advertisers to reach a mass audience and MLB teams can produce high levels of stadium revenue.  The Nats would be worth more if the Lerners hadn't started dumping salary in '21, and let the fan base sag.
