This is the worst Nationals team ever. It's a shame they put in a draft lottery, thankfully the 2023 draft appears pretty loaded.

Every morning, I check the box score, and I hear Rob Schneider from Major League 2 in my head. 'Oh no! We suck again!'

Adam Sandler is offended at that comment.

Hopefully in two years we'll hear the words of Alex Ovechkin, we're not going to be (blank) suck this year.

I'd say it seem pretty reasonable to guess that in two years the Caps won't suck.

Oh wait...

you meant the Nats?

Burgess Meredith had a line in Grumpy Old Men - 'You catch your wishes in one hand and your crap in the other, then you tell me which gets full first.'  It seems appropriate, unfortunately.

Here are the predictions from just before the season started. I said 57-105. Very doubtful they can go 12-19 the rest of the way.

As I mentioned in a GDT, since the post-trade deadline swoon, they are playing .500 ball - 12-12 as of the September 5 win. So it is possible they could get to 57 wins. Unfortunately, of the 27 remaining games, 21 are against playoff-bound or playoff-hopeful teams, and the other 6 are against Miami, which has dominated the Nats this season, so their work is cut out for them.

They are 10-9 since Abrams's  call up. The defense is just dramatically better at 4 positions - SS, 3b, LF, and CF.

With 27 games left they would need to go 9-18 to get to 57-105. Still going to be tough but since they're playing better they have a chance.

With 19 games to go the Nats would need to go 8-11 to get to my predicted 57-105. Not happening.

I think my 63 and 99 was a bit optimistic. We're 49-94 with 19 to play. Maybe we win 6 of the remaining games, putting us at 55-107

71-90 also.   Season is compressed slightly which will afford fewer makeup opportunities.

With tonight's win the Nats need to go 3-4 the rest of the way to get to my predicted 57-105. Don't like my chances.
