RHP Jake Irvin, who missed 2021 after having Tommy John surgery, has looked good in #Nats minor league camp. “He’s healthy, repeating his delivery and flashing three plus pitches,” farm director De Jon Watson said today. Has a 95-plus mph fastball, curve and change.

25 years old and has not pitched above Low A.  It's going to be really tough to figure out prospect status of guys who missed 2020 & were limited in 2021.  This may be especially true for Cole Henry and Rutledge.  This kid as well, although he's a couple years older.

Any word on Henry? He looked good last season, as far as it went. And Rutledge?

I assume both are in minor league camp. Given the compressed ST it doesn't seem there are the usual opportunities for minor leaguers to get time in the major league camp

At one point is he back to being a prospect to watch?

Probably time for Harrisburg. At a minimum, I am now excited about his potential as a reliver.

The article on Cole Henry yesterday says that, just as Henry had a 15 day gap between starts in order to stretch out his the length of his season, Irvin may get a similar gap at some point.  The plan is for both to pitch a limited number of innings each start in order to have them get in a full season in terms of length, rather than burn through innings and have to be shut down.

I wonder if that will stand should their respective minor league clubs make the playoffs or if there will be pressure to have them pitch. :couch: :)

Promoted to AA. First start on June 5, 4.1 IP 6 H 4 ER 1 BB 3K. Would be great to see him work up his arm strength and battle in AA all season.

So, if he's a 2018 college draftee, he has to be added to the 40 man or exposed at the end of the year, right?

We have so many 40 man spots with players who won't be hard to punt at end of the year

It's actually funny looking at the 40 man roster. A few hitters will be gone, deadline deals, Alcides and maybe 1-2 more, but boy oh boy are there a lot of pitchers that need to be dropped. More need to go than stay!

Need a 40-man spot for Clippard. There is a lefty relief pitcher, some guy named Clay, on the roster at Rochester...there is a righty with a lively fastball and no control, a guy named Andres Machado, who could slip off the 40-man without much of a splash.

5IP, 3H, 0ER, 4Ks, 0BBs yesterday for Harrisburg. Might we see him in the majors before the end of the year?

I think innings won't allow it, but I bet he enters camp next year with a shot of earning a back rotation spot.

struggling mightily at AA: 6 starts, 29.2 IP, 5.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP. The upside is 28Ks and only 6 BBs.
