Ildemaro Vargas (2B) grabbed off waivers, assigned to Rochester. Prior big league time with AZ and the Cubs. Not sure
why but apparently this organization feels the need to stock up on marginally talented middle infielders...Fox, Escobar, Adrianza, Sanchez, etc.. etc....BTW, Luis Garcia booted a routine grounder and committed a throwing error today, both within the span of just a couple of innings.

The usual reason for picking up marginally talented middle infielders is a lack of fully talented middle infielders.

That checks out.

Austin Voth DFA’d and Machado optioned. Jordan Weems and Francisco Perez called up.

Evan Lee is the next man up in the rotation so another move is coming.

Not sure Weems will be better than Voth, but he can't be any worse.  Perez made five appearances in April and only allowed a run.

just a guess, but Perez is up for a day.  They wouldn't have added Weems to the 40 man if they planned on sending him down the next day.  Lee is on the 40 man, so that gives him an advantage over Tetrault. It'll be a day, it'll be minimal service time.  He's a lefty they haven't seen and maybe he confuses them once or twice through the order.

I'm a little surprised it's Weems instead of Clippard, but Weems has pitched well.

Can we call up Garcia? Please? Give fans a look at the future and a reason to watch a hapless team.

My first looks at Tetrault didn't impress me one bit - in fact, he was horrible- but I watched his last start and he was a new animal. Mid 90s fastball was spotted well, consistently down in the zone. Offspeed stuff wasnt remarkable but it was still effective. He might have a future.

and they've sent Perez down already.  Let's see what Lee can do.  My guess is he's sent down after this start and Clay is called up.  Clay has pitched OK in Rochester:  13 appearance, 13 IP, 1.38 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 12 Ks.  Too many walks for my taste (5 BB).  I think they skip the #5 slot next time through the rotation and that Stras may be up after that for a start on 6/10 or 11.

Aaron Sanchez cleared waivers and elected free agency to retire.

No team is so bad that Sanchez looks good. He made $4 million last year, so maybe that will support him while he goes to college. Boras represents him, but I doubt even Boras has the magic to make Sanchez a pitcher.

Heck, Boras could be a detriment for a player like that, since his reputation might make a team worry about overpaying.

Guessing the Jordan Weems tenure is going to be a pretty short one...

DSG to the paternity list :whoop:  Fox back up.

Also, Josh Rogers to the IL, and Andres Machado back up.

He was a good chance for the Nationals to take.

Former big time prospect. Has shown flashes. It was worth seeing if we could find something in him. Rather watch him or Josh Rogers than a near retirement Anibal Sanchez.

Adon optioned down to Triple A
his long Nationals nightmare is over. Get him starts out of the glare, work on a 3rd pitch, regroup and bounce back. Curious what they will do for a 5th starter. Gray, Corbin, Fedde, Stras, ????  Profit!

Convert Adon to a reliever

Bullpen day for one spin around the rotation and then call uo Cavalli if he has a good start?

makes sense until a starter is needed. With Clay in the bullpen, maybe Lee gets another start.
