When is Garcia getting called up? He’s raking in Rochester.
Sorry. Some folks here just won’t allow it. Check with them for timeframe details.

poll on that in the Farm FTP thread. Given his service time (1 year, 37 days), I don't expect him up until after 5/23 or 5/24. That gives an extra year of control.

Nats have a bit of a 40 man roster squeeze, especially on the pitching staff.

They have Doo, Harris, Romero, Ross, Anibal, and Mason Thompson on the 60 day IL.  Ross is throwing simulated games, threw 33 pitches, and hitting 95, so it looks like he should be back once he builds up innings and pitches.  4-6 weeks?  Doo might be back close to the all star break assuming he starts throwing middle of next month.  Thompson, Sanchez, Harris, and Seth Romero are not throwing.

Most to the minor league pitchers on the 40 man are recent waiver pickups or guys we recently traded for.  Evans Lee is the exception.  Perez and Abbott are 24 and 26, Machado 29, Clay is Claytus the Lefty, and then there's Carrillo (young, traded for, and hurt in Harrisburg).

Guessing Doolittle is done. Cut Anibal. Cut Clay. Doubt Harris ever is back.

Thompson and Carrillo are young and should be kept around. The rest are players you expose to waivers and replacement can be found on the street.

i think Doolittle pitches again.  It's a partial tear or sprain, so I think he tries to pitch and will go until he completely tears the UCL.

I had not noticed this, but Rusney Castillo was released by Rochester and signed with the Long Island Ducks.

Easy decisions. Get rid of DFA Clay, Machado, and Escobar. Move Harvey to the 60 day IL. Bam, four spots.

Honestly, its pretty much a lock that Stras or Ross will be back on the IL before they all clear waivers.

Claytus uses a left arm to pitch. He can never be released. I also think they like Machado. But yes, Escobar would clear a 25 man and 40 man slot. I've assumed the 25 man slot goes to Garcia or Ehire.

Stras is on the 10 day IL. Ross will need someone gone off the 40 man.

There are more than enough DFA candidates to accommodate Joe Ross. Frankly, Ross would have been non-tendered if he hadnt got hurt last season

Voth is pitching better.  Clay has no business on any roster

Voth is, I think, "the poor-man's Erick Fedde". OK as a two-inning relief pitcher when he starts an inning, especially if it's not the end of the game. Clay should be taken off the 40-man roster as soon as someone -- our old Clipp -- is ready.

Machado, Aaron Sanchez, and Rogers should be lined up and sent to Rochester as soon as someone else is ready. Someone like Strasburg, I hope.

Machado's already in Rochester.

The Nats will be able to keep 14 pitchers through 6/19 rather than dropping to 13 on 5/30.

Quote
How does MLB’s roster announcement affect the Nationals? Major League Baseball informed teams Thursday that they will be allowed to carry 14 pitchers on their roster until June 19. Previously, the plan was to have a 13-pitcher limit starting May 30. (Before that, it was May 2.) Martinez said the Nationals were planning ahead as the old deadline neared, but he is glad to have the extension, given how much he has had to ask of his bullpen.

“I think it was a good decision,” he said. “I think they actually took [a look at] what was going on throughout the league and decided some more time definitely will help. So for us, I thought it was a really good thing.”

Has had two good starts in a row. Give him some more time. No rush on these pitchers please.

Seems they made a decision that Machado gets a shot before Clip.

I'll guess they will use a bullpen game and spot start one of Espino / Ramirez / Rogers next time they need a 5th starter, which will be on Wednesday 6/1 at NYM. Adon will go on regular rest on Thursday @ cinci.

Tuesday 6/7 would be the next time the 5th starter would be due.  They could possibly  push Adon to 6/7 and skip the 5th because 6/6 is an off day.  If they do, that sets up potentially Strasburg for 6/11 vs. Milwaukee, or another bullpen game.

What situation fits the talents of Austin Voth?

Send Voth to Rochester to...grow vegetables in the bullpen like Joe Pignatano? Piggy was a coach for the Expansion Senators with his Brooklyn buddy Gil Hodges. Went to the Mets with Hodges, got a World Series ring. Died last week.

Ildemaro Vargas (2B) grabbed off waivers, assigned to Rochester. Prior big league time with AZ and the Cubs. Not sure
why but apparently this organization feels the need to stock up on marginally talented middle infielders...Fox, Escobar, Adrianza, Sanchez, etc.. etc....BTW, Luis Garcia booted a routine grounder and committed a throwing error today, both within the span of just a couple of innings.

Garcia played second. I wonder if his hand injury played a part
