I mean, he's never leaving the infield.

You get ready. He will play first base at some point this season. I don't know why or how, but this team will somehow end up with him at 1B, some stiff at DH, and Josh Bell in LF for a game or two.

I'll admit to not paying much attention this spring, but this is the first time I became aware that somebody named Victor Arano even existed.

I never follow Spring Training. It means every single opening day I see at least one bullpen arm whose name I am convinced was made up.

Arano was very good for the Phillies for a couple years and then had arm problems. Shocking I know.  Good buy low potential bounce back guy.

Victor Arano sounds like a British motorcycle name

I mean, sure, but he was signed to be a DH. I think it's funny that NL team refuses to acknowledge the position on the roster release.

Am I the only one who thinks Victor Robles is a couple bad defensive plays away from the team DFAing him and rolling with Stevenson or Casey in CF? I know Stevenson is off 40-man, but he is still in system.

I think they can handle the inconsistent bat more easily than they do the glove.

Robles is only 24, he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Going to Rochester to work on his game with Garcia.

If Robles has a bad 2 months, then maybe they try Thomas back in CF and let Yadi play in left.  What level is Casey playing at this year?

No, because a few bad defensive plays for Robles would still put him far ahead of Stevenson, who has a lot less range and no arm.  Stevenson can't really play MLB-caliber defense in CF.  Nor can Thomas.
Casey's not ready offensively and probably won't stick in CF either.  And there's no guarantee that any of those guys will hit better than Robles either, although Thomas seems likely to and Stevenson likely wouldn't.

Robles is out there because he's the least bad option, and a few miscues wouldn't change that.

Casey is supposed to have arm, speed, and power. The k rate is Brad Eldred, iirc, but athletically he's MAT

Your opinion of Robles is more charitable than mine.

The dumb mistakes crush me.

I could totally see him in 2024 or 2025 being a non-roster invitee for some club and putting it all together. I don’t think it’s here.

JCA, should we move this to Robles thread? If there is one?

Thomas has speed and an arm too, but he's garbage at playing CF.  The fact that the Dodgers had him playing mostly in the corners at every level speaks volumes.

He still has a minor league option. They'll send him down to work on his swing.

I think you're thinking of someone else.  Thomas came from the Cardinals.

I think he was comparing Thomas and Donavan Casey, who we got from LAD.

Yes, sorry, I meant to compare Casey (second sentence, who did come from LA) with Thomas (first sentence).  They're pretty similar athletically. But it helps to put the dude's actual name in there...just a bit.

I really thought you'd like the Brad Eldred reference to power but high Ks.

Poor man's Adam Dunn.  A very poor man.  "Close your eyes and swing hard" is a fun batting approach.
