Roster moves - 2022
« Topic Start: March 23, 2022, 05:11:24 PM »
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/03/22/nationals-arbitration-juan-soto/

Nationals settle with 7 out of 8 arbitration-eligible players. Soto, in his 2nd of 4 arb years, gets $17.1 million, Bell gets $10 million in his last year of arb.  Robles is loan hold out: team is at $1.6 million, he's at $2.1 million.

4 players on the 40 man assigned to Rochester (Seth Romero, Lee, Antuna, Klobosits) while several other NRIs sent to minor league camp (Rutledge, J Rodriguez, Baldonado, Israel Pineda, Cluff, and Andrew Young - the infielder and not the pol).

Rizzo really, really hates Robles. He's done with him.

I think so, or at least he thinks he needs to stop wasting tools. FWIW, mlbtr projected Robles to get $1.7 million, so it isn't like Rizzo lowballed him all that much.

  My typos and misspellings are notorious.  Used to give Tom a field day.  I wish I could say they were just bad typing, but honestly I need to focus in order not to drop back to the spelling of more commonly used words.  I do this with to/too all the time.

seemed they were always intent on having him start in Rochester, and the shortened camp did him no favors.

Cavalli gets at least one more start.

I wonder if Adams is a lock.  They may want him sent down to AAA to catch and also to learn other positions when he isn't.  Barrera is still up.

I think he has to be. I bet they carry 3 catchers with Ruiz and Adams getting burn at spots other than backstop.

Ruiz and Adams both need at bats, but they both also need work behind the plate.  I don't see why you'd want a third catcher soaking up playing time back there.  Like JCA, I wouldn't be shocked to see Adams go to AAA with Barrera as the backup at least for a month or two so Adams can catch every day.

also Heyman reports Cavalli sent down.

Stevenson already cleared waivers and has 48 hours to decide on whether to accept assignment.  I guess this opens a spot on the 40 man too.

Yep, which is likely going to Gordon-Strange.

Complete list of roster moves, plus some on the injuries. Includes Fedde, Kieboom, Seth Romero, Ross expected returns.

So it looks like Stevenson accepted assignment to Rochester.

hmmmm.  So that means Yadi and Strange-Gordon are the backup OFs.  I guess Yadi to left and Thomas to CF or RF if Robles or Soto are not playing.  The extra April roster slots will go to bullpen candidates.  My guess is that the Nats regularly do bullpen games behind Corbin and Gray.  Fedde, Espino, and Rogers are the nominal starters.  If they get 4 innings out of those 3 they will be happy.

Someone here will be happy Yadi made the team. He is a good hitter so should get his share of regular playing time. Strange-Gordon will not keep up the hitting based on his track record. How is his defense in the OF?  I suppose he could also still play 2B?

Fedde missed his last start so he is not a sure thing. The rotation is a mess although I think you will see lots of that in MLB this year. Short training camp after a full season which came after an abbreviated one.

This reminds me I need to switch the name back

Hopefully he earns another switch
