Girardi fired. His buddy appointed interim manager. SMH.

Is it Girardi’s fault the GM built a team that can’t pitch or play defense?

No but he is a poor manager and handles the pitching staff poorly. In general they seem unmotivated and ultimately that reflects on the manager. He didn’t seem tied into the analytics either. It’s tough when you don’t have the greatest reliever of all time.

Wow, didn't even realize how poorly the Philthies were doing. I mean, they're not our special brand of bad but still, they're too talented to stink so much.

As many know on here, my mom is a Phillies fan. I called her this morning and she said "who the heck is the interim manager?". When we talk baseball, she loves to tell me that at least I expected the Nats to suck barnacles this year, but the Phillies were supposed to contend. I'm guessing the Phillies are going to interview Kevin Long for the vacancy.

Wouldn't they just have installed him as interim manager then?

Orioles shut down Grayson Rodriguez with a right lat strain, he may be done for the season. He's the overall #1 pitching prospect in the MLB.

They gave up 26 runs to the Phillies in Three games. Phillies were middle of the pack NL offense and just lost Jean Segura. Also Rendon did not play so I suppose he is hurt again.

Through 2028.  $115 Million.  Price for 3 free agent years of a DH? $26 million per. Deal cut 3+ years before free agency.

Since 2019, with a minumum of 900 PAs, he has the second highest wRC+ in baseball. And this season, he's cut down on strikeouts. If the Astros believe this is the real Alvarez, then this is a great deal. Id even argue he may be underperforming this season due to a .271 BABIP. Dude crushes the ball, but does so with an approach that isnt greedy or off-balance.

I think a better discussion would be someone explaining why Juan Soto is worth 15-25 million AAV more when they are virtually the same at the plate.

the article notes Soto's barrels numbers are taking a hit this year relative to Alvarez, which are peaking.

Let's face it - Soto needs a bounce-back in his numbers probably bigger than last year in order to maintain the narrative of being the next Ted Williams.  Some of those extreme comparables are dropping because, even as he performs in line with expectations (last year), there's less of a possibility that the estimates are on the low side.

Not really a question of worth. It’s what Soto could get on the free agent market with Boras as his agent versus a guy who by most accounts just accepted a team friendly deal without testing the market.  Like comparing any Soto contract to Acuna. With Soto so far it’s all talk and mostly fed by Boras.  He won’t get AAV like they have been talking.

Could be that he's a bad manager, but I also think it takes the right GM and front office to work with him. He had it in Tampa for sure. To a large degree in chicago, too. Maybe not as much in LA.
