yeah i mean i can just easily ignore iowa games and instead watch bama-tennessee, which was infinitely better than any NFL game so far this year. penn state-purdue in week 1 was better.

i can turn on a random CFB game and enjoy it more than most NFL games if i disregard gambling/fantasy. i mean MNF is unwatchable most weeks. Thursday nights are so bad al and kirk joke about it.

scoring in the NFL is down, injuries are up, there's only a few teams that i even care to watch. CFB has more chaos, atmosphere, more stakes, too.

in the NFL, what matters is who wins. in CFB, what matters is who LOSES. it's 10x funnier when teams like A&M, penn state, Michigan, Oklahoma, etc. fall apart and get upset. when a team randomly beats the bills it's like "alright well that doesn't really change anything at all for anyone anywhere"

then again who can deny the greatness that is the Bucs-Panthers with the corpse of Tom Brady losing to an XFL quarterback, or the Atlanta Falcons running the clock out in the third quarter down 21-0. Incredible!

getting back to the NFL - aside from the Bills and Chiefs, the Eagles and Dolphins (when Tua is playing) have been fun to watch. The Cowboys defense is very good as well. The Niners have been pretty good. Beyond that though, there's a pretty steep fall-off. I'm surprised to see how much the Rams have struggled, their Super Bowl win appears to be one that will quickly be forgotten as a blip during the Chiefs dynasty era.

Penn state Purdue meant nothing when it was played and means nothing now. Unless you attended a school playing, there is no reason to watch most games. I guess if you want to talk about quality, we'll just ignore what happened the week after Alabama/Tennessee when Alabama beat down an irrelevant team and Tennessee beat down an even more irrelevant team.

The Rams went all in on winning. Their last first round pick was Jared Goff and they've been in cap hell for years now. They won and now they're paying the price

the Bengals look to have figured things out, Burrow and Chase are way fun to watch. Also, the Chiefs have won exactly one super bowl, let's pump the brakes on the "dynasty" talk.

We are all prone to representation bias, particularly negative representation (assigning our thoughts about a specific incident as being entirely representative of the whole subject). So, those of us who were foolish enough to labor right thru Broncos v Chargers (on MNF) would conclude that the NFL is tedious - 'so ends a long night of football'. You said it, JB....Watch Chiefs v Bills and you'd think that the NFL is great...I suppose the reality is that every season has its classics, and its 'one for the diehards' games.

Although Burrow is warming up, I still think it'll be Chiefs v Bills for the AFC Championship. More to play for, in the NFC...

I think the issue is that the prime time night games mostly have been brutal. I mean tonight shaped up as a great match up before the season but now looks not as great. So those are the games designed to get the most viewers and therefore are driving the perceptions.

I think this may be the starkest transition year in the NFL that I can remember. The old guard of QBs are just all washed, and there aren't many guys who are in between Rogers/Brady/Wilson and Maholmes. Luck should be in his prime now, but otherwise, there were just years of mediocre QBs.

Mahomes and Allen are elite. Tua is getting there. Hurts may already be there. Burrow looked good recently (until last night). Dak has actually started to look good again. But yeah, slim pickings beyond those guys.

Looking at QBR ratings this season, only 3 are over 70 (Mahomes, Allen, and Tua).

I think of Allen as a generation behind Mahoney. Lamar is the only around the same age preforming well.
