Magyars used to have a goaltender (Király) who wore tatty grey sweats during big tournaments.  Southgate in his bespoke Savile Row suits should have more respect for the fashion subversives  :P

US tied El Salvador in a mess of a game down there. Looks like they had three inches of rain during the game. Qatar has three inches in a year. I believe they have two friendlies in the fall and then onto Qatar.

Italy (along with England, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Portugal) would be excluded from my Nations League...I think I read that Southgate used 37 different players, in four games, with at least six formation permutations, which sometimes changed during a half, never mind between halves.Think it's possible that he just might have been using these games to experiment?... :hysterical:

Problem would be that a refusal to play would mean forfeiting the game - although with seven changes in the line-up, and the conditions, I'm not sure what Berhalter got out of the game.... :roll:

Oh the stadium is fine, perhaps ideal. Some big Euro clubs played there in the before times.  I'll go in a heartbeat if I am not already in Gitmo

There were some '92 WC games at RFK - also '96 Atlanta Olympics had some group stage games here.  I went to Nigeria/Mexico and was like one of 5 gringos in the place (sellout crowd too), it was great  :lol:

I went to US-Portugal in 1996.  I think Keller was the goalkeeper.

Begs the question - is there a consensus on who was / is the best US goalkeeper over the past 30 years?  Meola, Friedel, Keller, Howard, more current guys?

I went to that one (US/Portugal) as well - it was a day game IIRC, and lots of families.  Best US goalkeeper - hard call but on balance I'd have to go with Howard.  Though Friedel was nails in that 2002 WC game (again vs Portugal).
