In a surprise result, Denmark defeated defending Nations League champions France 2 - 1, at the Stade de France. Austria lead Group A1 after defeating Croatia 3 - 0.

In the Nations League, England channel their inner Nationals and give away a soft penalty to go down to defeat 0 - 1, against Hungary. Good job it isn't a traditional summer World Cup, this year - England looked tired and jaded, after a long season... :(

Their fellow Euro finalists have an even worse hangover

Decent result, for Italy, today - a 1 - 1 draw with Germany. Mancini, beginning his second rebuild of the side, fielded a team of young players, most of whom are little known outside of Italy (from less fashionable Serie A sides, such as Sassuolo).

In the Nations League France were held to a 1 - 1 draw, by Croatia. The defending champions now face an uphill task just to qualify for the finals, this time round...

In the Nations League, England drew 1 - 1 with Germany. Both sides not at their best - Harry Kane equalised, for England, with a late penalty, becomiing only the second player to score 50 goals for England (he's now three behind Wayne Rooney).

Somewhat harsh, PWC - England are a young team (as are Germany), and the season has been a long one - I suspect there would not have been such late-season intensity had it been a summer World Cup...

Now - what about those orange armbands?.... ;)

England is -250 or so to win the group and the USA is like plus 700. So your boys whether young are not are the heavy favorites come
November.

I like Orange.

We should be getting ready to watch the World Cup now.  :'(

I'm very keen on orange myself, too...:D

Couldn't agree more - I suspect 2022 will be a one-off, especially with Blatter and Platini out of the way... ;)

General feeling, over here, is that 2022 is too soon for England to be serious winner contenders - however, anything less than the Quarter Finals would be regarded as failure. Anything beyond that is a bonus, and shall depend on how the Finals draw works out. If, as expected, England play France (in the quarters) then it would be a real turn-up if England were to progress - then, anything could happen...

There will be more pressure on England at US 2026 - by then, the side should be maturing to its peak.

I’ve been on record here as saying the same thing about USA. Lots of youngins. They should be ready by 2026.  Maybe this year they can sneak out of a tough group.

In the Nations League, England slumped to their biggest home defeat since 1928, losing 4 - 0 to Hungary... :(    Another game which shows the folly of the Nations League in a year when there's a major tournament (Southgate and Deschamps have used these 'glorified friendlies' to try out experimental sides / fringe players before the serious stuff, in Qatar). I always thought that the NL should exclude the major nations, to allow the tournament to be as UEFA intended - one where the lesser nations (who never qualify for the major tournaments) would have something to play for. This year has just brought the whole concept into disrepute. For England, the result looks bad but, under the circumstances, probably predictable.
