USA with England, Iran and one of Ukraine/Wales/Scotland.  Piece of cake.  :hysterical:

If you believe the US is actually the 15th best team in the world, then it should be pretty easy.

None of the groups can really be considered a "group of death"...Group E perhaps?

The draw system is essentially fixed - sorry - designed to all but guarantee that the major teams qualify for the knockout stage. I think we could see some gamesmanship creeping in - for example, if England win their group, they could end up facing France in the quarter-final, but if they just happened to finish second... ;)

Iran had a nice run in qualifying, and Wales is very good, too.  :hang:

Ironically, by average world rankings, Group B is the 'group of death'... ;) (alright - there isn't really one, this time, but it's everyone's favourite World Cup Draw expression / cliche)

And how does the world's biggest sporting tournament get underway - Qatar v Equador. That'll have everyone rushing home to watch... :hysterical:

The only thing funnier than that is believing England is the 5th best team.

For the omen-seekers amongst us - it will be the first time England have played on the opening day of the World Cup since...1966... ;)

It will be weird here having it during football season and around Thanksgiving.  The time difference will be a pain also.

I'm sure that with suitable care, rest and medication... :hysterical:

Seriously - I wish the US and Canada every success, unless playing England... ;)

A Winter World Cup is a new experience for us too. There is the possibility that it could assist the European teams - the tournament takes place during the height of the regular season, rather than with tired and jaded players at season's end (as is usually the case in Summer). Everything in soccer centres around Europe, as that is the most lucrative market, for FIFA - hence the timing of games, to maximise the European TV audience.

I never envy the English players with all the pressure they have on them.

I like Messi so will root (and cry) for Argentina.  In any event the Portenos know for sure they are European.

Also England/Scotland is a possibility. I can’t think of a group with more animosity

It is difficult to illustrate, and explain, to those who aren't English, just how deeply engrained in the national psyche 1966 is...

At least today has given all of us, over here, a bit of respite from all that's happening, on our continent - and our energy bills doubling (quite literally) overnight... :(

I have no animosity with the US... ;)  The issue, for all of us, will be if Ukraine qualify - it would be England / USA / Iran against the rest of the world, all rooting for Ukraine. Damnit - even I'd struggle to root against them... ;)

I would love to see the reaction if Camilla made some pro-Wales comments were they playing England.

We'll undoubtedly get the well worn 'may the best team on the day win' line... Would also have been tricky if England were playing Canada... ;)

if they had said,"may the best team win" in a Canada England match, there's no doubt which team that meant.

Chelski bidders revealed.  Steve Pagliucca, principle owner of the NBA Celtics (not to be confused with Celtic), who already controls Atalanta (of Bergamo, site of the first Italian COVID superspreader), is one major bidder.  Tom Ricketts (Cubs) is in on a separate bid, as is the owner of the 76ers (and partial owner of Crystal Palace), and a group with Tom Boehly, a part owner of the LAD.  It'd be interesting to have Pagliucca and John Henry owning 2 of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.  Bob Kraft explored but never bought into the European football because he did not want to put money into a team that did not have a salary cap.
