Since the old thread was 2020-21, I felt it was time to start a new thread.  I realize the Euro season is over the winter, but we have comments pretty much year round on the sport.  I've broken this at 2022, although I'm open to breaking off some of 2021 and recombining that with this thread (that is, have the thread 2021-22).

Footie fans - what do you want me to do?  If you want me to combine things up, can you point to a good post to break up the old thread?  I can't figure where the break is from last year and the current.

US women beat New Zealand 5–0 today. They led 3–0 at the half and all three of those goals were own goals—but even worse for New Zealand, all three own goals were by the same player.

Does she have to throw hats into the crowd?

Do we laugh, or cry? Russia submits formal interest, with Uefa, to host Euro 2028...

USA is in barring a 5 goal loss in its next game at Costa Rica.

Six goals. If they lose by five, they finish tied with Costa Rica as to both points and goal differential. The second tiebreaker is total goals scored. The US have 21, Costa Rica have 11 (pending the next game, of course). If Costa Rica were to overtake the US on total goals, they’d inherently win by more than five.

Sounds like the only generally-available broadcast Wednesday night is in Spanish unless you pony up for Paramount+.

I believe it’s also on CBS Sports Network.

Doesn’t Ukraine still have to play qualifiers?

Doesn’t Ukraine still have to play qualifiers?

The Scotland v Ukraine qualifying play-off has been delayed until June (for obvious reasons). However, the unusual timing of this year's tournament also means that (equally unusually) the draw will be made before all qualifying games have been played. ICYMI, Portugal and Poland booked their places in Qatar this week.

Besides the Scotland game, those still to be played are - Wales v winners of Scotland / Ukraine, Costa Rica v New Zealand, and winner of UAE / Australia v Peru.

Noticable absentees from Qatar include Italy, Egypt, Nigeria and Colombia.

None of the groups can really be considered a "group of death"...Group E perhaps?

I predict that we will see a first-ever APAC WC winner.
