When I practiced in New York, many of my clients were reinsurers. Reinsurance is insurance on insurance. You also have retrocession, which is basically reinsurance on reinsurance. There are always ways to mitigate risk.

When the chance of a pay out gets high enough, the only way to mitigate risk is to either not issue the policy or to charge a premium that assumes a payout. I somehow doubt the Lerners would have paid that much

All I know is, after reading the Post article, I doubt if Strasburg will ever throw a pitch again, and I don't think he should even try.  Either do a medical retirement with full contract payout or put him on the 60-day DL every April for the next 4 years, just do it and be done with it. 

A bad investment that completely failed, but the money  can't be stopped. 

The best thing for everyone is to move on at this point.  He's mega rich and will never have to work, and he'll be a new owner's debt on the balance sheet soon enough.  But he needs to stop thinking comeback and fans need to accept that he's not coming back and the financial fallout will last for four more years.  Deal with it.

I think there is zero chance of him not giving it another shot. It his identity, he's young in real years, so he won't just pack it in. That said, he cannot be in the team's plans. He can use the med staff, the trainers, have a locker, and try to pitch whenever he feels up to going to a farm club. If he's good, then we'll treat it like gravy.

I don't think the Nats would of won the world series without both Rendon and Stras. They had to sign one of them. Turns out it would of been better to sign neither of them but I didn't hear anybody say at the time it was a mistake to sign Stras. He got us a world series and a lot of good years.

So the update is there is no update

He's thrown his last consequential pitch. Maybe they trot him out in late 2023 or mid-2024 for a relief appearance and a planned goodbye. And that makes me sad.
