Davey says Strasburg’s stress reaction is to the 2nd/3rd ribs, it is related to his thoracic outlet surgery. He’s going to see specialist Neal ElAttrache in LA, but first course of action is rest.

they removed a rib as part of the TSO surgery right? So, it's either a precaution, or it's a sign perhaps the surgery triggered something else.

it could be anything from a bruise to a stress fracture from what I read earlier.

For baseball, that ship sailed decades ago. 

The issue with Stras was signing a guy who was 30, who had a long history of injuries, to a massive long-term deal.

It was such perfectly bad timing.   I could have lived with the contract if we won the World Series after it was signed.    If the option year was a year later, then no way he exercises it.   He may not have even exercised it after 2018 or maybe used the leverage for a bit of of a bump in term or money.   

Boras kills a lot of the joy of being a Nats fan.   I'm hoping the new owners provide a fresh start and we move away from the Boras guys.

They cut out a rib and removed a muscle. He basically has to relearn how to pitch. So maybe its not "minor discomfort"

Someone on the MLB Network (a former general manager who was a guest -- can't remember his name) said that no pitcher has successfully come back from this type of surgery.  I don't know if that's 100% true, but...

I think the Orchid stuff about Strasburg is BS. We are talking arm surgeries. No team doctor, no player does that for fun. We aren't even talking a scope and a little clean up of some loose bodies. Hand surgery, extracting a rib, fractures... that's not soft and in his head.

It's not no pitcher, but it's been a long time since a guy over 30 has come back successfully - see https://blogs.fangraphs.com/phil-hughes-and-the-sobering-history-of-thoracic-outlet-injuries/.  Short story is that Kenny Rogers and Josh Beckett were okay after, but everyone else over ~26ish turned into dog turds afterward.

Mike Rizzo says they’re still figuring out a course of action for Stephen Strasburg’s rehab. They don’t feel rushed at the moment because Strasburg won’t be cleared to do anything until he fully rests from the stress reaction in his ribs.

If they fail to sign Soto then they absolutely should just avoid Boras clients at all costs. If a player fires his agent and signs with him just trade him immediately. Dealing with him simply isn’t worth it.

How are Nats fans to look at Stras in the future?  As the prime reason the Nats won the WS (I know, others have just about equal credentials, like Scherzer), or the person who saddled the team with one of the worst contracts in history that will hold the team back for years on end?  I say , sadly, the latter.

Well good luck with that. Unless you always have a top 5 farm system or are the Rays. When you grow stars and then let them walk with no replacements you drive away the fans. In droves.
