Ehhh, not exactly.  Carolina won at least 11 games three different times between 2013-17, and that was after Fox left that franchise in absolute shambles.  Not saying Rivera is particularly good, but it was more than just one year.

And when you consider the sorry state of this franchise, it's no wonder he's getting a lot of leeway right now.  Even Bill Parcells would struggle to turn around this pitiful team.
What he said is correct though. Only one winning record since 2017. He kind of left Carolina in a mess also. Think he is somewhat overrated as coach but the bigger issue is personnel decisions. They don’t seem to be moving forward in his third season.  Everyone loves the guy though so Danny boy is stuck with him.

Gruden had a higher winning percentage here than Rivera fwiw.

This is the guy Danny Boy put in place based on his "coach-centric" ideation of how a football team should be run.

Danny, you're not that bright. Emulate what almost every other successful team does: strong GM that hires the coaching staff and makes personnel decisions.

I was disagreeing with the first sentence, obviously.  Rivera isn't "living off of" one year.  It's more like a span of five years + being fortunate enough to be under the employ of arguably the most clueless owner in all of sports.

He strikes me as a throwback tough guy about a decade after that stopped working. He doesn't have coordinators who seem particularly innovative and he's not exactly a great GM

Building a competitive NFL team is so incredibly easy and yet the COMMIES can't figure out that a moron HC and meaningless GM is a recipe for disaster. At least these guys can go out there in April and spend a top 10 pick on Will Levis from Kentucky and then trade for Matt Ryan to "mentor" him.

@granthpaulsen
Ron Rivera was just asked why the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles are all further ahead in their rebuilds - which coincided with Washington's.

"Quarterback."

I guess "backup quarterback" in Dallas' case?

OTOH, Grant also noted:

Quote
Carson Wentz actually played well yesterday. The pick at the end will be the story and will prohibit folks from digging any deeper. But that was the sharpest he's probably been this year.

PFF credited him with 5 big time throws. Kyler & Burrow have 5 all year. Matt Ryan has 1.

Way to stand behind the guy you traded for. I can’t wait for the fans to totally turn on him

LOL Grant.  You can’t discount a key interception end of game. That’s what Wentz does.

Dallas is 9-7 without Dak over the last couple of years.

Rivera just said QB is the reason the redskins are last in the division. His hand picked guy is apparently worse than backups in NY and Dallas

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34778123/washington-commanders-owner-dan-snyder-claims-dirt-nfl-owners-roger-goodell

Quote
DAN SNYDER DOES this thing when he feels cornered, say those who know him well. He paces in a hotel suite, or on his superyacht, or at River View, his $48 million Virginia estate. Cradling a drink in one hand, he tells members of his inner circle about the dirt he has accumulated on fellow owners, coaches, executives, even his own employees -- all the stuff he's learned from other sources, including private investigative firms. He never says exactly what he knows, only that in his 23 years as owner of the Washington Commanders, he knows a lot. And that in the zero-sum world of billionaires, this is how you survive. Snyder recently told a close associate that he has gathered enough secrets to "blow up" several NFL owners, the league office and even commissioner Roger Goodell.

"They can't f--- with me," he has said privately.

Snyder is more than the worst owner in the NFL, the report continues. The other owners want him gone, just to restore some dignity in their Washington franchise. But there is a catch:

Quote
According to more than 30 owners, league and team executives, lawyers and current and former Commanders employees interviewed by ESPN, the fear of reprisal that Snyder has instilled in his franchise, poisoning it on the field and off, has expanded to some of his fellow owners. Multiple owners and league and team sources say they've been told that Snyder instructed his law firms to hire private investigators to look into other owners -- and Goodell.

Ron survives at least another week. That game was an affront to football, the NFL must hate Amazon

Wentz out for 6 weeks with a fractured finger. If Heinicke comes in and the offense starts moving the ball better, that trade looks worse and worse. Or we will see the problem is the OL.

He isn’t the long term answer but darn Wentz hasn’t been the guy.
