I am feeling pollyanish about this.  Even Manfred has to understand that a sport in decline is not well positioned to go playing russian roulette with 4 bullets.

(shudders at flashback to 2012 NHL)

I think the MLBPA will push it until at least a few games are missed. They took a ton of flak for the last deal and a lot of their members thought they rolled over for with MLB. I think they either flat out win or a compromise is reached in the first week of the season

Agree.  IN the end it's harder for players to miss out on salary for a season in a limited career.  Owners all have other businesses.

Unfortunately for some, those businesses may be in commercial real estate

That’s ok because most of their income probably comes from investments which have been bringing in big returns over the past few years. The rich always get richer.

I'm really pessimistic about this season being played.

I think a delay hurts us. We know we probably won't be competitive, but the Nationals need to see how a lot of guys perform.

Of the 24 responses, nobody predicted that ST would start on time.  8 of you are on the clock with the regular season still starting on time.

I think this is make or break week. If no deal by the end of this week, things get really ugly.

I just wonder if we’ll eventually hear that the real division is between large and small market owners.

I heard a report (awesome post for cite checking!) that if there's no deal by 2/28, then the regular season will be postponed.

Reporters I follow on Twitter have been saying this for days.

Looking back, it’s stunning to consider what would’ve happened if they had stayed at loggerheads
