Paul McCartney is 80 today.

McCartney just headlined Glastonbury last night and was joined by Springsteen and Dave Grohl at various times during his set.

For those of you going to Saturday's game, an old Virginia college band called Everything is playing at the Bullpen afterwards (7:30 PM). They came out of JMU in the late 1980's, and had one hit called Hooch in the mid-90s. A mix of ska, go-go, rock, reggae, and a bunch of other musical styles. They were a regular at The Bayou in Georgetown and headlined the final show at the venue.

Given our current opponents, and the Nats performance, this is doubly appropriate... ;)

One problem I have with the Nats losing is that they play set songs at the Park as the fans leave. For years, I couldn't listen to 3 Little Birds. Now I think it is Touch of Gray. Long gone from my play list. Just stay the heck away from I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide

'Rock Goes To College' (BBC) was a way to get non-pop bands onto TV, with some excellent live sets. For the uninitiated, the title derives from the fact that all of the concerts were at student unions at UK universities. The one which made me smile, for it's breathtaking hypocrisy, was The Stranglers - they ended their set with Jean-Jacques saying to the audience 'we hate playing to elitist audiences', conveniently overlooking that he, and Hugh Cornwell, are both graduates... ;)

Simply one of the worst and most annoying songs of all time.

two interesting trivia items about that song:
- it wasn't even supposed to be a song, it was just something they riffed during live shows. At some point someone realized how much the audience enjoyed it and they turned it into a song
- they turned down the offer from the producers of Shrek to have it be the song played at the beginning of the movie when Shrek threw the outhouse door open, making Barenaked Ladies forever the best friends of Smashmouth

It was supposed to be this:
