That’s very sad. RIP.

It is.  A kick in the gut.  She was a force of nature who both informed and brightened the days of so many.  RIP and thanks, Wendy.

Liz Sheridan aka Mrs. Seinfeld at 93.

A bit late to this, but also - Mrs. Costanza aka Estelle Harris had died shortly before that, also in her 90s.  Crazy how that worked out.

If there's a Del Boca Vista (Phase 2) in Heaven, there's a whole lot of yelling going on right now.

One of the greatest before numbers started to explode.  Just so smoothe and effective.  Even at the height of Bruins-Canadiens rivalry in the '70s, you never heard a Bruins fan take a swipe at his play.

IIRC, he was the last player the Canadiens grabbed in the Gallic draft.  They used to be able to take the top french-surnamed player out of Quebec.

Scholars must still be debating whether that had an effect on their cup success before and after that point.

of course it had an effect (I/M/O - but I'm not an expert). I think Larry Robinson was the first great non-Gallic surnamed player for them.  I think Dryden was post the Gallic draft.  Richard x2, Bellevue, Lafleur, Tremblay . . .

I suppose the counter was that, up through the 60s, the Leafs did pretty well.

If only Exposfan87 was here to settle the issue.

Gump Worsley
Frank Mahavolic
Doug Harvey.

Those come to mind.

Came upon this. Lafleur was drafted after Montreal acquired the pick from the California Golden Seals. Major seal. I mean steal. He was picked over Marcel Dionne. People also forget he had a slow start to his career.

Might have been Cournoyer then. I'm pretty sure there was an outrageous pick up that killed it.

That might be an urban (Boston) legend.

So, apparently the story is the Canadiens had the right to 2 best french Canadians for about 6 years in the 60s. Marc Tardiff might be the best player they took that way. When Gilbert Perrault would have been selected, the nhl ended it. The abilty to pick 2 French Canadians was compensation for their predraft abilty to get more or less everyone from Quebec

Here’s the tribute from the arena tonight. :(  Have tissues ready.

Maybe not super-famous, but Spinal Tap loses another drummer:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ric_Parnell

Technically two drummers, since Parnell was drummer Mick Shrimpton in the original mockumentary and played drums as his twin brother Ric Shrimpton in Spinal Tap appearances after the film.
