Meat Loaf at 74.
got his original break I think in Hair, even before Rocky Horror.  I was in high school when Bat Out of Hell came out. He was bigger than Springsteen at my high school even after Born to Run came out (we all thought that was hype until we actually listened to it).

My sister and her friends wore out Bat Out of Hell, which was such a freaking great album. This makes me so sad, RIP meatloaf :(

a bit lower profile hit of his off bat out of hell, but a nice pop song with rich background phil spector sound.  Also a weird intro that has to be seen:

Meat Loaf is a tough one. I've tried to explain to my kids, without much success, just how important it was that everyone had copies of Bat out of Hell (and of course Cheap Trick's "Live at Budokan") back in 1978. My wife and I were just chatting the other day about listening to Paradise by the Dashboard Lights when we were kids without any idea what the song was about.  Sigh...

Comedian Louis Anderson.

He was just in the sequel to Coming to America, I think he finally made it to head fry cook.

Two out of Three Ain't Bad was another gem from that album.

Just reading the wikipedia page, I didn't realize that Max Weinberg played drums and Todd Rundgren played guitar on Bat out of Hell.  Edgar Winter played saxophone.

IIRC, that was the period when Bruce was in a fight with his label and the E Street band was not recording much.  I think Steve Van Zandt wrote a bit and produced Southside Johnny around then.  Bruce gave away Fire and teamed with Patti Smith on Because the Night back then in part because he couldn't record.

I thought Rundgren produced Bat Out of Hell?

Todd Rundgren produced the album also. Roy Bittan the piano played in the E Street band also played on the album. Rundgren was influenced by Phil Spector and it has that kind of sound.

Certainly you here it on You Took the Words Right Out of my Mouth.

In terms of back up bands, All Things Must Pass was essentially Derek and the Dominoes (with no Duane), and Toto was essentially Boz Scaggs's back up band for Silk Degrees.

there's speculation about the cause of death for Meat Loaf.  That discussion has been moved to uncensored.

To make the comment above all the more timely in light of recent events, during that period the E Street Band backed Ronnie Spector on her cover of Billy Joel's "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" (which itself was a tribute to her singing—consider how both that song and "Be My Baby" begin with the same "boom, boom-boom, POW!" drum line). The record was credited to "Ronnie Spector and the E Street Band."

Backstreets magazine did a pretty interesting article about Ronnie Spector's involvement with the Jersey Shore music scene during the 1976–77 period (she joined Springsteen on stage as a guest during two concerts; she also guested on an album by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and then began regularly appearing live with them). It's fascinating to read that there were tentative plans for her to join the E Street Band on their next tour. But then Springsteen's lawsuit with his former manager, Mike Appel, was settled and he began recording Darkness on the Edge of Town and there wasn't time for the band to support Spector as well. Who knows what might have been if the lawsuit had dragged on longer? I was pondering how different the E Street Band might have been with her as a vocalist in addition to Springsteen, and that in turn made me wonder whether Patti Scialfa would have joined the band in 1984 (I assume not—which in turn makes you assume she and Springsteen would not have had an affair in 1988 that led to his first wife divorcing him....).

WTF?

Back in '03, he was more or less keeping David Ortiz on the bench.  Ortiz, Shea Hillenbrand, Giambi, and Millar were splitting time mostly at DH and first.  To break the log jam, they traded Hillenbrand to the D-Backs for Byun-yung Kim (who earned another nickname that year).  I'm not sure if they released Giambi or what, but basically Millar and Ortiz took over the playing time.

Bob Sagat's cause of death was that he died in his sleep from an earlier blow to his head. The assumption is that he didn't think it was serious

Scary.  Let the conspiracy theories begin.
