Imagine paying an almost 40 year old more than 40 million a year being risky.

Max went to the Mets simply because he knew DeGrom would be the guy in big games and he could make business decisions for himself like he did with the Dodgers.

well, if the Mets take one, it's even and the Mets finish with the Nats. Advantage Mets if they take tonight.

I don’t know. Braves play in Miami and they have shut down Alcantara.

Braves extend Spencer Strider, 6 years / $75 million with a team option for a 7th year. The 7th year is either a $5 million buyout or a $17 million extension.

Essentially they added on one year (with an option for a second) to his contract as he has two pre-arb and three arbitration-eligible years ahead of him.

No, he's not a Boras client.

I'm reading it is a $22 million option (or a $5 million buyout).  That means they get to buyout the first two years of his free agency.  Since he's had one TJS, that seems about the right length for them.

For grins and giggles, I will guess that this is about an $13 million discount on what he'd get if he pitched healthy year to year until free agency.
2 arb years - call it $1.5 million total
Arb1 - $8 million
Arb 2 - $16 million
Arb 3 - $25 million
FA 1 - $30 million
FA 2 - additional $17 million

Assuming an FA contract of $30 million per multiple years that $13 million discount for that last year.  Present value, it's worth less than $80 million guaranteed and $97 million if the option is picked up, but I see this as pretty reasonable both ways given the injury risks.

Yes and their agents are telling them to take the money and run. Theyre getting more money up front and generational wealth for a couple years of free agency.

Its a no brainer for Strider.

Look what happened to Soroka, Harden, and Garciaparra.

Any pitcher offered a deal like that in pre-arb should 100% take it. You could blow out your arm literally one pitch from now and never recover.

Yep.

Strider is now 3 years removed from TJS. Clock is ticking.

That's hard to say. The year after Harper left the Nats won the world series. We'll never know if they would of won it if they had signed Harper.

They wouldn’t have signed Corbin and would have traded Eaton.
