January 2nd international signing day
« Topic Start: December 03, 2021, 11:27:45 AM »
Is this still going to happen on time?  They are amateurs and when they sign, none will be signed to a 40 man so I don’t see why it wouldn’t happen.

I really just want to seel the deal on getting vaquero and guitierrez

Not sure where this fits, but since he’s an international prospect, I posting it here. Welcome development imo

Really hoping there aren’t any last second issues and Vaquero is a Nat.

Still haunts me thinking about the DiPuglia interview where he thought he had Acuna signed and lost out over a few thousand dollars at the last minute.

Yeah. I read that Acuna story and winced.

yeah, I'm looking forward to the Nats, hopefully, living up to the rumours of who they're signing...

3rd baseman would be better.  OF course, Juan will be gone by the time Elian is ready.

No, no, no.  Kieboom, Robles, and Garcia will break out this year and become stars.  Then, when our wave of all star talent arrives (house, vaquero, soto jr., cavalli, etc), we’ll trade budding superstars kieboom, Robles, and Garcia for the legendary Mike Trout

Cuban OF Christian Vaquero is expected to sign with the Nats for close to $5M. Known as The Phenomenon.

“The best prospect in MLB is the Cuban CF, Cristian Vaquero. They say he hits with the swing of Willie Mays but with the power of Hank Aaron; makes contact like Pete Rose; fields like Joe DiMaggio; he has Roberto Clemente’s arm; runs the bases like Rickey Henderson”

I think that was old news. The potential for the new cba to impact the international market could've really hurt him by waiting. MLB Pipeline had him going to the Rangers for a couple months. Gutierrez signed with them today.

17 years old, not somebody with a ton of years in the Cuban league, so he's really a prospect.  Yes, it'd be nice if he followed a Soto path of development and we had him, House, and Juan for '24 before Soto leaves.  More realistic, I guess him and House could be part of the team in the 2nd half of the decade, along with Keibert Ruiz / "Matt Nokes" (his top ZiPS comp).

that's a lot of money for a 17 year old.

It is, and there’s obviously substantial risk involved when expending that amount of capital on a literal kid, but the physical tools are immense here. If he were in the States he’d be getting early buzz for 1-1 in his draft season.
