There's no proof Cal did steroids but in 1996 I don't think there's much doubt his good friend Brady Anderson was using. That same year Cal had an uptick in home runs from previous and subsequent years though not eye popping. There were times he got injured and had miraculous recoveries to keep playing the next day.
That's one of the problems with steroids. Anything out of the ordinary was suspect.
