And... he's gone. Unfortunately, Manning is taking over.
Probably just for this season.

Just through the end of the year. He's not the guy.

What a great day for Maryland athletics. Football is back in a bowl game and Mark Turgeon is not the basketball coach. Breaking out the nice whiskey tonight.

I saw something suggesting Maryland should try to lure Dan Hurley from UConn and the thought of a Hurley at Maryland was quite amusing.

Luckily UMD has become a football school since joining the Big Ten so no one notices the basketball failures.  :hysterical:

Outstanding.

Right. Nationwide search underway according tothe UMTerps article.  So a chance to freak it up nationwide.

Probably just for this season.

It's been a good 50 years or so.  Get ready to bottom out.

Nate Oats is the #1 target and would be a grand slam hire. Not sure we have the cash to get him from Bama.

Musselman apparently was backchanneled already and interested but there's some stuff in his background that wouldn't fly post-Jordan McNair.

Williard at Seton Hall is interesting but hard to justify firing Turge (he was fired...we were nice enough to let him save face though) to get another guy who underachieves.

Gary has already said they need energy back, period. Bruce Pearl would be amazing to get juice back. Sean Miller is a risky hire with the NCAA issues looming. Maryland is an elite-level job for a number of reasons and a guy like Oats should theoretically be interested if the money is there. He will be tough to pull, though.

When Gary left, we had objectively one of the worst ADs in sports history in Kevin Anderson, so I'm optimistic we won't freak this one up too. Our first choice was Sean Miller back then and it was on the 1-yard line until KA botched it.

I followed them through Len Bias and Bob Wade. I now deserve a perenially relevant team.

UMD- funny you mention Pearl. He's on ESPNU Saturday at 2 against a mid-major from New Haven that's won its league a few times in recent years. You know, the kind of school you schedule to fatten your record. They go to be less psyched out in the tournament 1st round.

One of Rod Strickland’s sons plays at JMU. His brother plays at Temple and had a good game last night. 21 points as they beat Vandy in OT after blowing a 5 point lead in the final two seconds of regulation.

Unranked Rutgers hits nearly a half court shot as time expires to knock off #1 Purdue. Crazy year so far.

Ivy Mens tournament matchups set although a couple weeks away. Princeton versus Cornell and Yale versus Penn. JCA will be rooting for the wrong team as usual. Harvard misses out on the tourney in the year it will be held on its home court.

too bad for Tommy. All he needed was to take a game from Princeton. Of course, our face-plant in Ithaca did neither of Tommy / James any good.

Yep. They will likely be in a play-in game for the 16 seed though their romp through the tournament may give them a chance at being a 15.

Looks like UVA will not make it. VCU and VPI seem on the bubble. Georgetown and GW in need of miracles to win their conference tourneys.

So Bellarmine wins the Atlantic Sun by beating Jacksonville but does not get a bid as they are in a four year transition period to division one. WTF. Good for bubble teams I suppose.

Does the Atlantic Sun just not get a bid? That would really suck for them

Edit, Jacksonville State gets the bid

Thanks. Based on reading an article it appeared no one got a bid.

Edit. So my confusion was that what I read was that Jacksonville that lost the title game does not make the tourney. Jacksonville State (located in Alabama) makes the tourney. They lost in the semis but were apparently the highest bid.

Hokies pull it out in OT on a buzzer beating three. Can UVA win also and keep their hopes alive?

I find it interesting that Notre Dame has been solidly in the tourney for weeks per most experts and VT working their back into the bubble. But VT was favored by a point. The odds makers know who the better team is without the committee. Beat them for the second time this year.

UVA with just 13 points late in the first half.  Did Bennett forget to recruit guys who could shoot?  Thought they would get more of a recruiting boost the past few years after winning the tourney.
