None for Steven Matz, nor can the Mets offer a QO to Marcus Stroman.

Grew up in SoCal. So Dodgers or Padres. Or maybe to Toronto as his folks were from Ontario.

I expect he'll end up staying in Atlanta but getting a better deal. He's the Zimm/Mattingly/Cal of that team, but the smart money is probably on letting him walk as he's 32 already.

It’s a tough call for Atlanta. If they let him go the fans will be angry.  He seems to be in good shape though and is rarely on the injured list.  And they have so many other good hitters.

And reunite with Hinch, as the Asterisk stench wends its way forward, in a manner that baseball previously to its credit largely halted in the case of the Black Sox.

Morosi says the Angels and Syndergaard are working on a one-year contract but it's not finalized yet. He hasn't formerly rejected his QO yet.

Why...what the actual...like, it's often said that there's no such thing as a bad one-year contract, but...wow.  Why give a guy that much money to rehab a TJ on the field and then sign somewhere else?  It's stupid even in isolation.  The draft-pick implications just make it worse.

Its not the contract, its that an organization with one of the most bare farm systems just gave up a second round pick and international pool money for one year of Syndergaard

Recent groin and TJ injuries at 39, and selling the fanbase on getting behind an Asterisk who helped get by them in 2017 and 2019. Have fun with that.

It is interesting that there seems to be a lot more action in the market before the MLBPA agreement runs out than there has been at this point in recent offseasons.  I suppose players and teams don't want to be left up in the air once there is a lapse in the agreement.  they don't want to scramble for contracts on the other side once there's a deal.

There will be two very distinct groups: The ones who want to get it done before a new CBA, and the ones who want to leverage the new CBA.

Guys like Rodriguez, Verlander, Heaney, and Syndergaard make sense to sign now, as their offers wont get much higher. I would expect some more to follow. Chris Taylor probably would be the biggest one.

The guys like Castellanos and Schwarber will wait for a universal DH

Verlander staying in Houston

MLBTR:
Quote
4:59 pm: The player option in Verlander’s deal is for around $25MM as well, reports Jon Heyman of the MLB Network (on Twitter). Essentially, the deal is a two-year contract with a guarantee of around $50MM and an opt-out after next season. That’s a fair bit better than MLBTR’s projected two-year, $40MM deal entering the offseason.

4:47 pm: Verlander will be guaranteed $25MM next season, reports Mark Berman of Fox 26 (Twitter link). The deal also contains a 2023 player option.

Rays are reportedly offering 10 years at between $150-200M to Wander Franco, which would eclipse the deal that Atlanta gave to Acuna.
