So Bye Bye Freddie Freeman? You don’t make this trade unless you need a first baseman.

I don't see Pache working out to be much more than Victor Robles.

easily the most shocking development of this off-season is the Braves letting Freeman walk

at this point, yes.

At most any point.  He's major-league ready defensively at catcher and he hit AA hard at 23.  That's more valuable than a CF even with equivalent offense.

Pache's still young, but last year was basically zero progress for him.

Also, if Oakland wants to put him in CF, go see if they'll trade Laureano.  He's still suspended for juicing, so that should make him cheap (and there's 25 games or so left to run, so contenders might not want in).

I know you have to miss postseason if you’re suspended for PED. But what if suspension crosses two seasons?

Right, Langeliers was a #1 pick a couple years ago. Pache is listed now as their #3 prospect, Cusick #9 and Estes #14. How do the Braves always seem to end up with deep farm systems?

Somebody posted on twitter that the Reds ownership were one of the teams who REJECTED the increase in the CBT thresholds. Now they are doing a giant selloff. I'm of the mindset that if you want to buy a major league sports team, come and spend your damn money. Don't buy a team and cry poor. It's not something for profit, it's a status symbol.

So Olson to Atlanta and Freddie to? Dodgers? Rays? Jays? At least he is gone from the NL East.

Olson signs an extension with Atlanta.

8 years, 168 million.

Rizzo needs to hire someone away from Atlanta that can negotiate contracts

Or just trade for non-Boras star players.

This was a pretty shrewd move on the Braves.   Punt on signing a long contract with 32 yo Freddie and lock in a 28 year old for 8 years.   Their fans probably hate it, but it was a pretty solid baseball move.

No idea.  I'd assume it would only ban you from one post-season, but I really have no reason for that assumption.

Yep.

Emotionally, an awful decision. But analytically, brilliant. It helps that Oakland basically gave Olson away, but still.

You don't think Oakland got a good return?  Most of analysis I have read, think Atlanta gave up a ton.

I think Pache is a lighter hitting version of Robles. I hope he proves me wrong, but he looks like a 4th OFer.

Langeliers was the prize, but I dont understand why Oakland wanted him so bad. If he's not MLB ready now, he will be by the end of this season. Sean Murphy hasnt even entered arbitration yet.

Estes is nice, but young. TINSTAAPP.

I dunno, if Pache can hit that changes things, but right now he looks like a slower version of Billy Hamilton.

Maybe "gave away" is too strong, but I really think other teama would have given up a better package than that.

so, laureano is next, I guess.

FWIW, Bosox are supposed to be in on Freeman.  That would make Dalbec available, but more significantly, that looks like it blocks Casas (or locks in a post-JD time split at 1st and DH).
