Correa is an interesting case.  I think some team ultimately will look past any potential physical issues.

Yep, some teams are willing to look past asterisks…

In addition to Max's record AAV, on 12/1 there were $1.4 Billion in contract commitments, and the off-season is just 1 contract short of the most $100 million plus commitments with Correa, Freeman, Story, and Bryant unsigned.

It's ludicrous that the sport...any sport...is throwing around that kind of money.  These guys are the only ones that can afford a ticket anymore...

wow. I guess he's a Mariner for life. Better than Dewey Evans retiring as an Oriole

only 2 issues are roster-related, but Janes discussing 4 issues:  CBA negotiations, universal DH, Bauer, and standardizing the baseball.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/01/01/mlb-big-questions-2022/

She points out that Manfred in the middle of December said non-economic issues are off the table until the CBA is worked out.  What this may mean is that there may not be much time to work out whether there will be a DH in the NL if the CBA negotiations go into the spring.  Even if there were a quick agreement outside the CBA, would there be enough time for NL teams to chase potential DHs.  You'd think guys like Castellanos would be impacted, and of course RZ.

The baseball itself is an issue.  Apparently, there was a mid-season switch of baseballs that was not told to the players or the public. The original baseball was supposed to fly less to get more action / balls in play.  My sense is the offense was down so much early on that they made the switch.  The article discusses switching to a tackier ball to allow for better pitcher grip, similar to Japan.

Interesting trade - Isaiah Kiner-Falefa for Mitch Garver.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/twins-acquire-isiah-kiner-falefa.html

not stars, but both will be regulars.  IKF's versatility makes him interesting.

Kikuchi to Toronto for 3 years, $12 million AAV.  Best remaining starter is probably Greinke.

Can we just say "F the Mets!"  Cohen is going to turn them into the most hated team in baseball.

right now, my best judgment, their bullpen looks better than the 2022 Nats. Certainly better on paper than 2021 Nats.

The Yankees sent Gio Urshella and Gary Sanchez

I don't quite get what the Twins are doing.  They essentially traded Mitch Garver and Josh Donaldson for Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez.  That's giving up a lot of value just to avoid paying Donaldson (who was pretty much worth the contract last year anyway).

MLBTR's take is they are down to a $94 million payroll, which is about $40 million below their max.  They may turn around and give Story some of that.  Meanwhile, the NYY get a legit glove first SS to hold the position until their prospects come along.  If the Twins land Story, then they may like Urshela / Sanchez / Story more than Donaldson / IKF / Garver?
