Lol, apparently Cohen and the Mets are salty at Matz's agent.

You've literally watched them for one season
Cheap tickets and short lines at the restrooms.  Nothing wrong with that.

And that was enough. You seem to love the Nats' pitching staff. Anyone else would call it tanking.

All will be fine if we get Alex Wood or just one of them.  But yes, it looks like the market for the DeScalfinis and the Matzes is probably too long for our liking, so we will wait for the unsigned to fall to us after the strike, at best.

I guess the logic is that we aren't going anywhere if we don't hit on the trifecta of healthy Stras, healthy Ross, and optimal Corbin (which was mid-April to end of June Corbin after his 1st two post-Covid starts), and we need space for the Cavallis, Rutledges, and Henries when they are ready.

Passan reports yesterday that the giants and wood were close to a deal

Yes, we should be tanking. Having 75 million AAV locked up in 4/5 starters means you either have young, cost controlled pitching as your 1/2 guys, or you have zero chance to be competitive. Since we dont have that cost controlled talent, we are tanking until we do.

I think it is more likely that we have 75 million locked up on the IL than 75 million on the staff performing at the 4/5 level. Corbin probably isn't a health problem, so call him a functional 5 if not in name.  I think that, in Rizzo's mind, he has Corbin / Gray / Ross at least penciled in, leaving one slot for a 4/5 and another for a 6+ depth guy to fill in if Stras can't pitch and Cavalli is not ready.  If I'm right, then one slot is planned for the winner of Rogers, Espino, Fedde, Voth and the other is planned for the runner up.

Personally, that looks at least one arm short, thus my wish they'd play for a Wood-level arm.

I think Stras will pitch more. I just think he wont be any good. So, basically, both Corbin and Strasburg will give you thr equivalent of a 4/5 on a ~.500 team.

I'll be disappointed if he pencils Ross into the rotation. He simply cant stay healthy enough.

Sign Stroman. That would help the Nats and hurt the Mets.

No reason to assume that Cavalli is ready for the majors, as he failed AAA. Henry is well behind Cavalli, and Rutledge behind Henry.

Why worry about saving Lerner-money? Count off all the starting pitching prospects that the Nats drafted with and after Detwiler and Zimmermann. What is the value of a pitching prospect who does not make it?

Why invest money in Stroman when he will be in his decline when we're good again. Just another Corbin.

Stroman is going to be able to get 4 or more years at decent money. If he gets that, then I want him to get it someplace else. That's the market. I don't think they will want him once a couple of kids are ready and Stras is at the end.

Castrovince Thinks He's ZDK with 5 Trade Proposals Around MLB

While I would hope the Phils don't end up with Matt Chapman and Hader, I love the concept.  Then, when the Phillies don't win the NLCS, we can all  at burning up their farm. Or :( if Bryce gets to display his hair at a WS parade.

The Glasnow proposal makes me wish we were a bit more proactive providing salary relief to other teams willing to send us something useful for the future.  We don't have the kind of stuff similar to the Mariners for him and Kiermaier, but I'd hope we'd be in on Kiermaier for a year if the Rays gift wrapped him with Wendle or a bullpen arm.

It's Chapman, Olson, and Puk for Hiura, 3 guys in the bottom half of the top 100, and 3 more guys.  I think it might be light for the As. I don't think the quantity makes up for the quality of the guys they are giving up.  Also makes me :) more about the Turner / Scherzer deal.

Isn’t Escobar an IF?

Marte just turned 33. Four years seems a bit much.  Good for the Mets.

Escobar for 2 years at $10M a year is the kind of deal the nats should have done.  Marte for 4 years at just under $20M per year is a good deal as well

Mets pursuing Scherzer
when the Mets sign Scherzer, will we still keep the Max sign up at Nats Park?

Kluber to the Rays

1 year / $8M plus incentives. Good, low risk deal for Tampa.
