Kevin?

Cash money. No players going to Tampa from Oakland, which I assume is depressing for the Oakland players. .

I always wished Don Money had been traded for Dave Cash.

Part of the 55 year plan. It also includes playing half of their games in Saskatoon

Wander Franco and the Rays agree on a 12/$223 million extension.

Franco is valiantly holding on in his flght to remain in Tampa. (I 'think' you are old enough to get that reference. :) )

I do wonder if the whole thing about splitting time in Montreal has anything to due with Franco the Shortstop.

I am starting to recognize just how bountiful a name like Wander Franco can be for nickname lovers.

Would have been better if he had signed with the Giants...

From what I read Matz allegedly had offers from 8 teams including the Mets. But not the Nats.  I think we can end any illusions that the Nats will be looking at the top or mid tier pitching free agents.

I am sick of watching guys like Nolin, Rogers, Rodriguez, Fedde, Espino. Is that to be the rotation next season? Josiah Gray, the ghost of Patrick Corbin, the hope of a Stephen Strasburg and a Joe Ross? Reminding me of Matt Chico or Hal Griggs.

So this is tanking. Let's go Caps!

Matz has been pretty inconsistent, and averages about 150 IP on a good year. I assume Rizzo didn't think he was worth the risk.

Strasburg averages less than that for more than $30 million per year. Luckily we have innings eater Corbin (170) at a bargain price.  It does not make sense to sign someone like Matz for four years given the general uncertainty of the lineup. They will be looking for guys on one or maybe two year deals.  Think this year’s Jon Lester.

How about JA Happ for one year $5 million. He got $8 million last year after some good years in New York. Veteran soft tosser. Maybe if he is doing well you can trade him at the deadline.

You've literally watched them for one season

Yea, the 4th year was a deal breaker. I could justify three years for him or Alex Wood.

All will be fine if we get Alex Wood or just one of them.  But yes, it looks like the market for the DeScalfinis and the Matzes is probably too long for our liking, so we will wait for the unsigned to fall to us after the strike, at best.

I guess the logic is that we aren't going anywhere if we don't hit on the trifecta of healthy Stras, healthy Ross, and optimal Corbin (which was mid-April to end of June Corbin after his 1st two post-Covid starts), and we need space for the Cavallis, Rutledges, and Henries when they are ready.
