The Devil Rays were Boggs' third team and the Phillies were Martinez's fifth.  And Scherzer's time in LA was so short that it's Jon Lester in Oakland territory.

And yes, I'm putting out the JCA bat signal by doing this all with former Sawx as the comps.
Pedro helped them a lot for one year, IIRC.

He just pitched part of the year. But pitched well.

looks so much heavier than he did in his Cy yrars. Couldn't top 90 mph. Reminds me some of what Greinke is doing stuff-wise

This is a real bummer. I didn't want to have to wish for him to fail.

Agree n all counts.  I don't blame him for taking that deal, and it will be tough to clap for him in a Mets uniform.  Agree he deserves it, and I will, but will have no problem booing him as soon as he tips his cap.
 :w:
Booing Max is NOT permitted!   Having said that, the Mets insanely overpaid.  I've been the biggest Max fan but now I'll be rooting against him. What a revolting development!

Man that is an insane amount of money for a 36-year old. Sheesh.

He's 37 and will start the year 4 months shy of 38.

Let's put it this way.  If he's putting up 6 WAR seasons in his 40s, then just rename the Cy Young award.

after Pedro Martinez ;)

Max Scherzer, in Dallas for the union meetings, didn’t understand all of the talk about wanting to pitch on the West Coast. He lives in Jupiter, Fla, his parents have moved to Jupiter, and the #Mets spring training site is just 40 minutes away from his home. He’s beyond thrilled.

Quote from Max: "Steve [Cohen] said ‘whatever it takes to win here.’…you don’t hear that from owners too much these days." Must be nice to have an owner like that.

They are the Mets, they find ways to NOT win.

He's overly involved and bush league on Twitter. Definitely not jealous of the Mets.

Reminds me of when the mediots were all speculating that Mark Teixeira would give the Woes a hometown discount because he grew up near Bawlmer, and then it turned out he was a lifelong Yankee fan.
