On the other hand, taking the money to go to a hated rival kind of says he cares more about the money than his Nats legacy and fans.

What would Jesus do?

This is literally the best case scenario for the Nats. Scherzer went to a team he didnt want to go to. He is already starting to break down. And now we get to watch Soto hit titanic moonshots off him

Zuckerman reminds everyone that we open in NY at Citi, so we face Scherzer & deGrom to open the season

Didn’t see this coming. I thought for sure he’d re-sign with LA.

Maybe LA didn't love what they saw out of him the last couple months?

probably not at $43M a year for 3 years. I thought I saw they were only offering 2 years.

When has signing aging free agents ever won a team anything?  You win in baseball from good drafting and having a good player development system.  I still can’t see them beating out the Braves.  Maybe a wild card.
Well, if winning comes from "good drafting," we're in trouble. You and I could draft consensus #1 prospects. The shape of our farm right now tells you all you need to know about our drafting prowess (or lack thereof). And, of course, no guarantee but I think winning teams can be bought.

isn't he dealing with thoracic outlet surgery?  I'm looking forward to his first match up with Max.  It's be like Kelo Ren vs. Palpatine.

He deserves a pregame standing O when they do his Nats video.  I put this one, Rendon, and Turner in a different class than Harper.  I even put Howie's introduction as a coach in a different class than Harper, and they are on the same team.  Max never dogged it to save himself for free agency. 2021 was arguably his best year since his Cys.  Lowest ERA, still a dominant K rate.  Add in the 2019 nostalgia, there's no way I'd not be on my feet pre-game.  After that, he's just another Met, eating bagels that don't measure up to Montreal's.

I dunno, but now I'm wondering about the first UCL surgery performed by Saints Thomas and John.

Funny how Max's $43 Million is equal to Gausman's $22 million a year and Syndergaard's $21 million for 2022.  I think the total dollar commitment is just about the same for twice as many years of control.

I suppose it depends on whether Jesus is a Mets or Nationals fan... ;)

Trevor Bauer oddly decided to tweet and take credit for Max's short term/high AAV contract.

https://twitter.com/BauerOutage/status/1465392285533687809

All the other crazy stuff aside, I don't think a 3 year deal for a 37 yo is really an example of what Bauer is claiming to set the market for.

Jesus is a closer (he saves), not a starter, so no real comparison with Max.

Scherzer with the Mets is going to seem like Pedro Martinez with the Phillies or Wade Boggs with the Devil Rays.

Given he's going to his 5th team, not so much.

The Devil Rays were Boggs' third team and the Phillies were Martinez's fifth.  And Scherzer's time in LA was so short that it's Jon Lester in Oakland territory.

And yes, I'm putting out the JCA bat signal by doing this all with former Sawx as the comps.
