Yeah. Rendon and Soto and Turner and Strasburg had nothing to do with the title.  And we lost several years in the playoffs with Max before we won. Singing a 37 year old pitcher to a four year deal is almost as confounding as signing a 33 year old CF to a four year deal. It’s NY and the owner has to make some moves. Meanwhile the Braves still have a better lineup and several good young pitchers.

When has signing aging free agents ever won a team anything?  You win in baseball from good drafting and having a good player development system.  I still can’t see them beating out the Braves.  Maybe a wild card. 

Degrom > Strasburg.  McNeil took a step back, but he's still a career .299 / .364 / .459 hitter. Alonso is a stud.  Nimmo is a nice piece too.  That's all internal.  I like the Canha / Marte / Escobar signings.   If Lindor has any sort of bounceback, that's a heck of a balanced, quality line up.

That's kinder to the Mets that I would be. DeGrom has a mysterious injury that lingered. McNeil had a disappointing season that has the Mets listening to trade offers, although that indicates other teams are, at least, interested. Alonso hits homers, but gets criticized for being somewhat indifferent to wins or losses. Nimmo is OK.

I was rooting for him for a bit in LA.   He'll be dead to me for his Met years, and I hope they'll be forgettable.

The odds of this being a smart contract for all 3 of the years have to be less than 10%.   I'd say it is 50/50 whether they even get one 43 million season out of him at this age.   A deal like this could look real dumb if a year is lost to a lock out.

This is why you root for the team, not the player.  I can't blame Max because there was no way he could turn down that offer, but it goes to show that players come and go - they are paid mercenaries and money will always talk.  I'm sorry but it will be hard to give him a standing O while in a Mets uniform.....but I begrudgingly think he deserves it.

Agree n all counts.  I don't blame him for taking that deal, and it will be tough to clap for him in a Mets uniform.  Agree he deserves it, and I will, but will have no problem booing him as soon as he tips his cap.

He wants more money for the younger players.  The owners see that as a zero sum game so it means that comes from the higher paid guys.
