“In” on Taylor, according to Heyman.

Started writing a joke about him as Soto replacement, then doubled over in convulsive pain, sickness, and regret, disconsolately clutching a Scherzer jersey

Oh, please, oh please, oh please.  Be so nice to have another good MLB regular in the lineup, even if we don't know where we will ultimately use him.  With Qs about 2d, SS, 3d, and at least one OF, this team has Taylor landing spot written all over it.

Even with a QO attached, makes sense from the versatility perspective

I could see him starting at SS until Kieboom or Garcia burns through Davey and Rizzo's patience, or in LF/CF depending on whether Robles is playing.  Something like a Yadi/Thomas
<---
in left, the 3 guys with final shots (Robles, Garcia, Kieboom) at CF, 2nd, and 3rd, Taylor holding down SS, with Alcides chilling until one of those 3 finally declared to be a Norwegian Blue parrot and Taylor moves over to fill the gap.

Given how awful this team has been at drafting since 2012, losing a pick due to a QO doesn’t mean much to me - and it doesn’t look like that draft record is gonna change since they aren’t bringing any new perspectives in to run that process.

this reminds me of Devo's song, "Freedom of Choice."

"In ancient Rome, there was a poem. About a dog, who found two bones.  He picked at one, he licked the other.  He went in circles till he dropped dead."

Hope we do better when we pick. But seriously, either would be helpful.

I mean the team needs both but still more. Those two guys could bring this to a 75 win team at best.

Is that contingent on him learning to throw a baseball better than Johnny Damon or hit one better than a scarecrow?

Nats should’ve been in on Baez for $20M per year if they actually are treating this as a reload. Definitely a rebuild.

the guy who this may push off the roster is Yadi.  I don't think Yadi is a lock to get the bulk of the at bats either in left or DH if RZ is back (he can play the kazoo on the bench when he's not due up) and there is an OF or OF/IF  signing.  He has at least 1 option left, maybe 2, while Robles and Stevenson are out.

I still like a Taylor signing and I'm suspicious of Baez's inconsistency at bat.  I really want Taylor signed and starting at SS until one of Robles, Kieboom, or Garcia plays himself out of the line up.  Then Alcides can slide into SS (or, longshot, Cluff shows enough at AAA to earn a shot).

I really hope we ink Taylor.

reportedly got 6/ $140 million from Detroit, $23MM+ AAV.  I think that's not going to work out well, but it is like a Werth signing for them just before contention.
