Samsonov was under siege but that was a weak one to let in.

Beating up on teams from Ohio has a nice "whump" sound to it.

Watching the Blackhawks broadcast.  MAF getting a nice tribute for 500 wins.

Totally dominating the game and then some dumb penalties and now down 2-1.

I watched the first period of last night's game on my iPad on the Acela. Got in the car to drive home and the second period started right as I exited the parking garage at Union Station. Heard Ovechkin's goal. Got off the Beltway with the score 1–0 Caps. It's two miles from the Beltway to our house. By the time I pulled into our driveway, it was 3–1 Chicago. What a bizarre game.

Caps might win the Metro with Bettman points.  Hey, adaptability is the key to survival

A team could, in theory, go 0–0–82 (82 points) and finish midpack in the conference. They wouldn't make the playoffs—that typically requires around 95 points—but they'd be nowhere close to last place, either.

I stopped at the NHL Store in New York last night prior to catching the train home. I was somewhat disappointed—the selection of merchandise online is much better, and the available sizes for various items like socks was quite limited (I wanted to get my wife something for Christmas, but size large socks are way too big for her). It was also insanely hot in the store—I wound up standing outside in the breeze with my coat off for about 15 minutes just to cool down.

Pro sports merch in physical/brick-and-mortar stores has really gone downhill in general.  Seems like just another industry that's moved online in the last ten years.

That was gross.  Two shots on a double minor is piss poor.

I heard this AM that Joe Snively played on Ovi's line and had an assist.  Herndon boy makes good!  I heard he's the first Virginia kid to play for the Caps.  Nice to see a pay off for his persistence.  Yale class of '19.  Don't know what his future is, but at least he had his Moonlight Graham moment.

Tonight's game in Philadelphia has been postponed due to the Caps' COVID issues.

DC just announced a requirement, beginning January 15, to show proof of vaccination to enter indoor spaces, which would presumably include Verizon Center. Be prepared for longer lines at the arena entrances.
