I don’t get it. Won’t he accrue service time? We already have 2 catchers on the 26 man with DM saying the Avila may be back soon. Who is being demoted?

he already accrued some time this year. The Nats generally don't seem to worry about things like that. No word yet on the demotion but probably one of the other catchers so they can play in Rochester.

Rosters also expand on Wednesday. Can carry three catchers.

could have waited until Wednesday if they wanted to keep 3 catchers.

Apparently, Ruiz has exceeded 45 days on the Nats and Dodgers active rosters so he has lost "rookie" status in 2021. He had 22 days in 2020 with the Doyers.  He will not be eligible for RoTY in 2022, nor will Gray. 

This article ranks him 4th among all 2021 rookies in terms of long term value, behind Franco, Kelenic, and Hayes.
