Bobby Jim Bowden predicts that the Dodgers will offer Max $50 million per year for three years.

Jim Bobby also says that he had the Nats tank, thus laying the foundation...

And

https://theathletic.com/2844830/2021/09/24/who-stays-who-goes-for-dodgers-what-will-max-scherzer-sign-for-who-lands-justin-verlander-jim-bowdens-mailbag/

there can't be more than a few teams that would make that kind of an offer for a guy who will be 38 next July. I don't think the Nationals would be one of them.

I don’t see that either. I can see him signing for 2 years.
I can too. For 100 million

I think that is high. Need competition to drive up the price that high.  At least he does not engage in rough sex so that should be worth a few million.

$40 million aav would still top every preceding contract, so 2yrs $80 million would still drop jaws

So 2 years, 80 million, with a team option for 30 million in the third year

The guy is 38 years old. Not interested. Let other team overpay him  :mg:

It’s a moot point. He wants to play on a for sure contender. Besides the Dodgers there are only a couple of teams that might have interest at that price.

He will sign with the Cardinals on a reasonable deal.

After Wainright beats him in the wild card game he will have no choice but to join him.

Max is from Missouri and iirc, grew up as a cards fan so it’s not unreasonable

Have heard Max Scherzer would like to pitch into his 40s. So that would mean a 3-year-plus deal. At 37, remarkably, he’s still at the top of his game, so a record annual salary is all but assured.

Not everybody wants to live where they grew up. I know I wouldn’t. This is doubly true when you have enough money to bring your family to you.

we may as well keep on collecting old Tigers pitchers.  We've had Fister, Scherzer, and Anibal. Should sign Verlander and eat Price's contract.

Maybe J Zimm will make a comeback.

Right, I'm the biggest Max fan there is, but it's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

So I guess adding a playoff save to his resume makes Max a lock for the HoF now? :)

He didn't look particularly sharp yesterday.  The ump might have got him off the hook with that awful call.   It had a good result, but I'm not convinced it was a sound decision to bring him in as closer.  He often takes an inning to get his pitches all working.

Didn’t see but wasn’t the check swing call on an 0-2 count. Even if he doesn’t get that probably still gets the guy out.
