What bottom level team has a championship manager, GM, and arguably the best player in the game?

The team that is 79-104 over the past two seasons?  Yea the free agents will be knocking down the doors to sign with the Nats.

The bigger point is why would you offer a big contract to someone like Correa when you are not close to contending?  Makes no sense.

Someone like Correa will only go to a contending team. Unless you overpay by a lot. That is the problem with being a bottom team.  Fans need to be patient with the rebuild.
Correa is trash. And he will go to the highest bidder.

If I were the Nats and wanted to compete next season, I'd throw 4 years and $60 million at Chris Taylor and tell him he's hitting #3 behind Soto and ahead of Bell.
There are zero competitive teams that have Chris Taylor hitting third

No.   He’s not a roster for a competitive team
I wouldnt go that far. Espino would be a fine long reliever/spot starter.

Strasburg cant be relied on, Ross is gone. This team needs two starting pitchers in free agency. One of them should be either Kevin Gausman or Edurardo Rodriguez. The other should be a one year deal, someone like Dylan Bundy

I'd rather have Espino and Ross over Rodriquez and Bundy.

Well Ross' career is over. Espino cant get through five innings, doesnt strike anyone out, and is going to be 35 next season.

So yea, Im gonna take the power lefty with FIPs below 4 in the last four consecutive seasons, and then pair that with a guy with  at least one good season in the last three

I like Espino in a Miguel Batista type role. Somebody you can beat the crap out of instead of a younger or more talented pitcher.

Obviously lying. So they tried it one year, it worked and then they stopped doing it. Right.

Thanks for posting.  This is gold.  freak Correa.

Spruce is still cool in my books.  He’s so short and weird.

Assuming the NL has the DH next season, who do you like as a Nats target?

Hernandez

I’d rather keep him in LF and go for castellanos or Cruz.  If we move Yadiel to dh (platoon with zimm) I wouldn’t mind canha for left

Hernandez has gone from a fad to I expect him to produce over 400 ABs next year and produce for a winning team or be a good deadline chip for a contender.

If he hits .280 next year with his current bb% and power then he is a very valuable piece for a win-now team given his affordable contract.  Not everyone is the dodgers and willing to spend a ton.  The reason we gave up so much for Eaton was the contract.  If Yadiel does 90% of this next year then he’s worth a top 100 guy plus deeper level prospects

Yadiel isnt getting you a top100 prospect. No one views a 34 year old as anything more than a one year rental

Which brings me back to a point I’ve expressed before.  He has more value to the nats than any other team.  Let’s keep him.

Assuming the NL has the DH next season,
And the NL might mandate that there be a unicorn in the lineup. Equally likely.

Not at all.  They’re not separate leagues anymore.  There is only mlb.  Having separate rules is quirky and interesting, but definitely not necessary or ideal.

Players union should want it as it prolongs careers, limits pitcher injuries, and ups the pay rate of bat only guys due to doubling their market.

The DH is coming. Probably the only predictable thing about the negotiations.

If he comes back next year and is OPSing north of .800 with passable defense, he will get a solid return. Not Top 100, but good. So many trades have stress about, "Who picks up $X million left this year" and this guy will be making rookie salary.

And if he is posting back-to-back productive years and is under team control for a while, then the Nationals should probably consider holding onto him in case they found a guy who is younger than his years.

He's 33 now. He might have one more season like this. Small chance at 2. He's basically a rental. You might get a team like the Guardians who is willing to take a shot on him, but you're not gonna get anything tremendous for him

Nats need two starting pitchers and a shortstop. If they can sign Correa, I don't care if the guy denies Houston cheated. Not as long as he hits and plays SS. Pitchers? A good one as number two starter and a respectable pitcher for number 3. Then Fedde and Espino until one of the prospects shows up. No hoping for miracles from Strasburg or Corbin.

Alcides and a utility guy, of the sort that Rizzo can find, to back up the infield.

CF and LF will be shaky. Maybe Thomas can hit respectably, or maybe he's a good 4th OF. Before anyone talks about AAAA OFs, we know, and need to face the fact that Robles is a AAA CF until he proves he's a major leaguer. Yadiel seems to hit, and he would be OK in left. Of course, Schwarber was a good recovery, but can Rizzo sign him again? Or someone like him.

*

Not a super-team, but the Nats could compete in the NL East.
