Follow the Prospects: Drew Millas, C

Drew Millas, C, Washington Nationals
Level & Affiliate: High-A Wilmington Age: 23 Org Rank: 13 FV: 40+
Line: 3-for-5, K

Notes
Millas was acquired by the Nationals as the most noteworthy part of the prospect package exchanged for Yan Gomes and Josh Harrison. In his first game with his new club, the ultra-athletic catcher hit three singles, one of which drove in two of Wilmington’s 10 runs. Even with his strikeout in the fourth, Millas has walked more than he’s fanned this year, boasting a K-rate of just 15.1% while walking 14.8% of the time.

Millas, a switch-hitting catcher like Ruiz, has consistently produced for the high-Class A Wilmington Blue Rocks. But he entered the organization behind Ruiz, Adams and Tres Barrera and perhaps others in the pecking order. In Washington’s ideal world, Ruiz and Adams are their tandem for the next half decade. The Nationals also had been high on Israel Pineda, a 21-year-old from Venezuela, who has hit for some power this season but otherwise struggled. This organizational catching depth did not exist until the deadline fire sale.

Millas is who we call up when we move Ruiz to first base full time

Weird you asked this question. I actually did a dive a little bit ago this morning and can't find him anywhere. Barrera is at Rochester, Pineda in Wilmington, and a prospects I'm not familiar with make up the backstops for Senators and FredNats.

I’m guessing he’s either hurt or working with some of the guys at extended ST

"Mason Denaburg?"
Fixed. There's no empirical evidence on Mason Denaburg existing anymore. He's Ivory-billed Cockaded Woodpecker of the Nats system.  Those who speak of him say he is a pitcher, but produce no evidence.  Thus, "Mason Denaburg."

Struggled in his time at Harrisburg hitting .200. Quick rehab assignment in Fburg and is now at Wilmington where he went 2-3 with a HR and a 2B today.

It looks like him and Pineda swapped places both physically and within the depth chart of the organization at Catcher.

Back to AA after Pineda went up to AAA. .200/.273/.287 while he was there to start the year. Hopefully he can improve on that down the stretch.

We could stand to trade some of our upper level minors depth.  Pineda, adams, barerra, and millas is a bit of a log jam.

I don't see them going into next year with 4 catchers on the 40 man roster.

Ruiz is a lock.

Adams looks like a backup catcher. I think the plan was to let him play 1B down the stretch but Voit and Meneses messed up that plan. Still a solid backup.

Pineda somehow showed enough last year in the minors that I think he bought himself another year.

I think Barrera is gone. I think he looks good behind plate and he has hit it well for stretchers but the team lets him rot on the bench when heis in DC. I bet he's gone if the 40 man gets tight.

he's 30th on the Nats list you posted.  To me, that's as low as I've seen him.
