If the union can hold out until RSN rebates are due, I think they get some leverage. Right now, the owners just don’t care. That appears to be about 25 games into the season

Interesting article.  I always assumed the Sinclair RSNs lost more money when teams were playing than when games were cancelled, but I see they owe bigger rebates than they get.   Also, it seems if MLB is really wanting to put the screws to the Sinclair RSNs, they could play a 140 game season where Sinclair owes rebates and the MLB teams don't.

Not sure I can blame the players as most of them were in diapers in 1994, but the owners sure do seem to have short memories. The sport lost a huge chunk of fans the last time around, and a lot of them never returned. They may have replaced those fans since then, but it took decades. My dad was a big baseball fan for most of his life, but I'm pretty sure he hasn't watched a single game in the last 28 years.

well, they can hope for a steroid-fueled home run chase to draw fans back.

MLB TV just reported that two more series have been canceled.  Earliest start date of season is April 14.

MLBPA deserves what it gets.

Opener in Pittsburgh.  I wouldn't hate that.

Why does the MLBPA deserve what it gets?  They're not the ones who initiated the stoppage.  They're not the ones trying to avoid paying their employees market rates for as long as they can while playing in stadiums paid for them by taxpayers.  They're not the ones cancelling the games now.

Rosenthal says they've reached agreement on the international draft, that was the last major sticking point. The owners are set to make a final complete proposal today, it seems like we might be at the finish line.

Passan says they've essentially punted the issue to July.  Via MLBTR:

10:29am: Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association have reached a provisional agreement regarding the international draft, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan (Twitter thread). The two parties have set a July 25 deadline to determine the specifics of an international draft that would go into effect beginning in 2024. If a deal on the draft is reached by July 25, the qualifying offer system and the associated draft-pick compensation will be eliminated. If the two sides do not reach a deal on the draft, the qualifying offer system will remain in place — as will the current international amateur free agency structure.

as I read this, it sounds like the players can either agree to something that depresses the international market or hold out and keep the QO / draft pick compensation that hurts members of the MLBPA.  I would think the QO/ draft pick approach depresses money more, unless the international signees are going to be paid only token amounts.  The biggest internationals now don't top $5 million to sign, I think.

1:55pm: Heyman tweets that the MLBPA executive subcommittee “appears” to be voting against the proposal, though it’s not clear whether that’s a unanimous decision or whether there’s a split camp among the eight players on that committee. That’s an important distinction, as the MLBPA needs a simple majority among the 30 team union reps and the eight members of the subcommittee — a total of 20 yes votes. In other words, it’s still possible for the union to approve the deal even if the executive subcommittee is against it.

BREAKING: Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor deal, sources tell ESPN. While it still needs to be ratified by both parties, that is expected to be a formality, and when it is:

Baseball is back.

They will play 162 games via a three day regular season extension and a few double-headers.
