I'm going through an exercise with my old ticket group gauging interest in a small package for next year.  We used to get 4 seats full season.  I'm having trouble coming up with half those commitments.  I'm mostly doing this because I have a ton of credit from last year, plus unused bonuses for renewing for 2021.

My wife and I have had a half season plan since 2013, so not a ton of seniority, and for the first time since the current STH relocation process has been in effect, we were able to move to much more desirable seats in our tier (300s below the press box). To me, that says a lot about fan interest at the present time.

Jay Jaffe blames the owners, noting that the players probably would have agreed to play under a one-year extension of previous agreements until a new one was agreed to.

I lost respect for Jay Jaffe after he voted for JOE NATHAN for the HOF.

Well, FWIW, Nathan is 17th all-time in JAWS (https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/jaws_RP.shtml), ahead of Suter and Hoffman who are both in the HoF.

Nathan was the most dominant closer in the game for a relatively long stretch (at least as far as dominant relievers go)

There's never going to be an agreement until there is pain for not agreeing. Not until there is a threat of lost games and outrage from fans and advertising partners will they sit at a table and start making hard decisions. A one year extension would just have meant doing this next year.

he had a five year stretch where he was roughly as good as Mo, but injuries limited him.

crazy rumor going around that MLB owners have proposed a 14-team playoff where the #2 and #3 seeds pick their first round opponents

Sounds like a good way to get balls thrown at heads and cleat high slides into second

7 teams per conference out of 16 is where the NFL is now, so 7 per league out of 15 isn't off the wall in terms of playoff pools.  The pick your opponent is an interesting twist.  Do you go with the underachieving choking dog team with stars (2015 Nats), or do you go with the overachieving guys who somehow complement each other and scraped into the playoff (2019 Nats)?

The NFL has a much shorter season. So many teams clinching months before the playoffs is not going to be ideal

it's a disincentive for all but the deadest of dead dogs from tanking, and it makes the #1 seed something to try for among the top tier.

Reportedly they started talking about TV revenue, someone brought up MASN, they all laughed for about 10 minutes straight, then broke for lunch

Enough of this crap, just seize all their assets and nationalise the league.  Players can be paid on the GS scale.

There's nothing like a completely arbitrary and artificial deadline to get the other side to think that they have to do something... (otherwise known as 'completely transparent negotiating ploy'...)
