Wasn’t FP named in the Mitchell Report as a juicer?
yes.  He actually had a pretty publicized abject apology when he was on the radio in SF when it came out

Has someone yet provided a logical explanation of why Alcides Escobar is playing?  What is the purpose?

TV  booth's celebration of Barry Bonds' 756th HR is sickening.  A juiced, Bonds worshiping Santangelo was in the house somewhere.  Disgusting.
Were steroids illegal in MLB then?

Yes, since 1991. Testing started in 2003.

Ok. Give him credit then for beating the system.

Probably because he is not part of the future at 34.

So there is no logical explanation.

They are primarily trying to give young guys a chance. Not win games. You may not be ready to accept that but it’s true. And highly logical.

Not really. Shirley Povich reported on them, mentioning them in his last column. Everyone saw that Bonds, Sosa, and MacGwire were using something to change their bodies. Bonds, for instance had been built like a greyhound when he played for the Pirates. He was a superb ballplayer. Then he looked like a different person. MacGwire suddenly went from being washed up, dumped by Oakland, back to being a home run hitter.

MLB just did not care. Or, rather, the owners knew that players were juicing and wanted it. There had been the strike in '94 and owners wanted lots of home runs.

the funny thing with Bonds is his body is back to normal now. He cycles, and I think his wife or gf does too. There was a picture of him on the road over Independence Pass in Colorado a few years ago and he was completely normal

Not for baseball. That’s why Escobar is not playing.

They didn’t test until 2003 and apparently the tests were not that good when they did start. As you say MLB knew so I have no idea why the hate for the players.  Be mad at Selig and the owners and the MLBPA.  Now that Manfred is so unpopular you see Selig’s stock going back up. Which again shows that no one really cared about the steroid era he presided over.
