I don’t think there are enough games for the Nats to get to #4 or better. It’s not like those teams are going to stop losing.

I’m excited.  Next years draft looks heavy on hitter.  Green, Johnson, or Jones out of high school would all be stellar picks.  As would berry, Lee, or jung from college.

Royals win, beating the Astros drum line.  Rox are up, and Cubs win. Loks like a 4 teams within a percentage point. This has the feel of the 67 pennant race

6th in the Tankathon, by ourselves, .5 game behind Miami and .5 ahead of KC.  3 teams are tied in the all important win column (when you are tanking, banked wins cannot be made up).

Quote
5    Miami   51-69   .425   12.0   Lost 2   4-6
6    Washington   51-68   .429   12.5   Won 1   2-8
7    Kansas City   51-67   .432   13.0   Won 2   4-6
8    CHI Cubs   53-69   .434   13.0   Won 1   1-9
9    Minnesota   53-67   .442   14.0   Lost 1   6-4
10    Colorado   54-66   .450   15.0   Won 2   5-5

Baltimore should be stripped of their 1st round pick and fined money.  They’re about to lose 105+ games for the third straight year.  They’re not even trying.  To top it off they’re the only team receiving tv money from another team.  If they didn’t luck into Mullins this year then they’d be losing 115+.

They’re should be an 8 team 2nd division or something where those teams predominantly play each other and have a few games against the good teams.  This is dumb

The certainly did whip up on the Nats. They have a decent young core, actually.

Thing is though, there are probably Class AAA clubs out there that could whip up on the Nats.

Sounds like European soccer leagues. The worst teams get relegated to the second division, and the best from the lower division get promoted.

One draft position should not matter much. Or four. Picks are always chancy.   If the team shouldn't try until they are a power team likely to winthe
division, the why not trade Soto this November for another boat load of prospects?

Because the better prospect we get, the better draft hail we get.  In the top 10 picks, each spot you move up adds a not insignificant amount to your total bonus pool.  Moving up a spot could mean having enough leftover pool money to snag kumar rocker or a high-upside high schooler or draft eligible sophomore in the second round.

In no way does trying to maximize value in a lost season suggest we’d be better off trading a generational asset.  Nobody would have the prospect capital to trade for Soto anyways.  Take the Padres.  Cronenworth, Abrams, Gore, and Hassell wouldn’t even get the conversation started.
