He will lead us past the Rockies for the 8th pick!  Rockies idiotically kept story and gray on expiring contracts.  Meanwhile we have our trusty tank commanders wander suero and Samuel clay!

I think they can pass Colorado, KC, and Miami and maybe even Minnesota to get down to 5. They all to some degree held on to some talent they could have traded.

That’s what I’m thinking.  The 4 worst teams are in a league of their own

So we are 5 out of pick #5.  This seems like a good idea for a new thread.

You might discover Reggie Jackson...you might discover Steve Chilcott. Nothing is assured...tanking does not assure major-league success for the player selected with the tanked-for pick.

[Chilcott and Jackson were the first two players, in that order, taken in the 1966 MLB draft...suffice it to say that their fortunes diverged considerably in the ensuing years]

We were in Williamsburg and came across this...

Apparently the Duke of Gloucester is a big fan...

Wonder what he thinks of our current situation...

We're going to the playoffs. Ruiz is gonna get called up and take. Corbin is locking in. Gray is gonna adapt and start shoving. We already have an ace in Espino. We'll have Cavalli available out of the pen in the playoffs, and Stras will be back for the World Series

I run through that exact scenario at least ya couple times a day not gonna lie.  It would be the only thing more epic than our 2019 run

It's doable and should be Priority #3.  Priority #1 is to give the younger players some playing time.  Priority #2 is to keep JBell healthy and hot for a potential off-season trade.  Same goes for Yadiel.

I'd hang onto Bell and Yadiel has more value to this team than I think as a trade candidate. Teams aren't going to trade anything for a 34 year old corner OF. The fact he has years of control makes him ideal for this team. He is cheap and hits.

Remember the Nationals still play the Marlins and the Rockies a bunch of times, so they can really help themselves out.

I'd forgotten about the Rockies, but the Marlins took two out of three the last time the Nats played them, so Miami will be favored.

In Tankathon-relevant scoreboard watching, Minnesota beat Houston 5-4 (obviously trash collection day in Houston so the cans were not in the dugout to signal pitches), Royals dropped a game to St. Louis (drink!), and, in a head to head, Colorado crushed Miami.  So, we pick up a game on Minnesota and Colorado, putting us in a tie for 8th and just two games back of Miami and Minnesota for 5th. 2.5 up on the Cubs and 3 on the Tigers, but, as Enzo Ferrari says, "What's behind you doesn't matter."

Nats have lost five in a row, longest streak in baseball. Colorado (6-4) and Minnesota (5-5) winning their way toward respectability.

Come on Nats!  You can do this!   Just like the good old days (with Soto the new FOTF).

Very good :D Although the way things are going, for those teams, they'd probably all miss each other... ;)

OK, so you believe the Nats will compete in 2022.  I believe not.
