Carlik Jones signs with Dallas as an undrafted FA.  Darn, he would have fit well in D.C.

We already have a scrub third string PG--Cassius Winston. I think they traded for Holiday to be a backup.  Need a starter.  The Holiday trade shows me the Unseld influence--defense.

Last I saw the expectation is that they would at least try to keep Ish, though I don't see him as being anything more than a backup PG. I have to think there will be another deal for a PG.

I joke about Jones because he went to my school (Radford), but he was absolutely dominant in the ACC last year playing for Louisville. He was top-6 in the conference in scoring, assists/turnover ratio, and free throw percentage and was a first team all-ACC player.

The thing that kept him from getting drafted is his size, just 6'1", 185, but the reports were that he lit it up at the showcases, especially from the 3-point line. I expect he'll be at least at Ish's level if not better in the NBA.

I think they have the MLE to use to sign a PG. there are also some rumors floating around about Murray from the Spurs which would require a trade. They seem to have enough front court bodies now to make a move.

dennis shroeder turned down a 4yr $84M extension with the Lakers during the season.  Just signed in Boston for 1 year / $5.9M to be a backup.  Idiot.

He sucks.  Hard to believe the Lakers offered that.

Sometimes betting on yourself is a bad idea. Supposedly, he thought he was with $100 million, so he lost $79 million because he wouldn’t come down 14

4 years, $77 million.  There's this:

Quote
The signing does not take the Celtics out of the running for a max free agent next summer. They would now need a sign-and-trade to accomplish it, but if Beal is available, Smart would likely be a necessary asset to accomplish the deal anyway.

It's close to $60MM over the last 3 years.

the smart move in the NBA is to extend anyone you can because their contract is an asset even if they aren't. At some point, I wonder if they make changes to the CBA because it's gotten relatively ridiculous

I actually like Smart.  almost got his jersey the last time I was in North Station.  That was . . . 3 seasons ago?  wow.

Two jersey I wish I had were Ty Law's and Marcus Smart's.  I looked for a Jon Lester Nationals tee shirt but did not spot one when I went through the team store.

Future NBA hall of famer Carlik Jones last night: 33 minutes, 21 points, (6/14 FG, 2-2 3PT, 7-7 FT), 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block

John Wall's time in Houston appears to be coming to an end. Pretty amazing that the centerpieces of that mega trade both only last a season with their new clubs.

Both teams were offloading terrible contracts. Russ was going to win a little more than wall, and Huston was tanking so it made sense. I just want to see how the make salaries work for a trade with wall

I have a hard tome seeing how Westbrook fits with the Lakers.  Lebron might defer to him early in games but he will want the ball last quarter. Has anyone ever seen Russ play off the ball. He is certainly no threat from three point range.

I think he’s offense in the middle of the season when Lebron wants rest and Davis is injured. I think he actively hurts them in the playoffs

Russ' stint in LA is still not going well, missed a couple of clutch shots last night as LA again blew a lead against OKC and lost. OKC is 2-6, with both wins coming against LA.

Lots of speculation of John Wall heading to Boston soon.

More proof that the world has gone absolutely mad...

Ben Simmonds has been fined $360,000 by the 76'ers for missing a game.  One game.  ONE freakING GAME!

AND...they are going to continue fining him until he seeks help for his mental health issues.

WHAT!  You are paying a guy $30MM/yr to produce less than 16 points per game and you think HE has mental health issues?

Well it was not the current GM who have him that contract.  I believe it was the league appointed one (Colangelo).  League forced a GM on the team as the previous one was embarrassing the league by tanking.

Edit. It was Elton Brand who came after Colangelo.  Dookie.

Professional athlete maximum salaries should have been frozen at the Catfish Hunter level 46 years ago...$750K/yr, plus inflation, of course.  Then we could have $20 box seats and $4 beers.

Too much riff raff at the games at those prices.

He needs to just show up and torpedo the team. The Sixers should have traded him once Doc Walker threw him under the bus but Morey can lose a trade. I want Simmons to show up and just take jumpers from wherever he's standing every time he touches the ball

Can’t do that. He is afraid to take a jumper. Or a foul shot.

Eventually someone will want to make a trade and think they can fix him. And his mental issues will be cured. The mistake was not trading him for Harden at the beginning of last season. Team is 7-2 now so no rush to just dump him. The distractions seem to have brought the rest of the team together.

7-2 can easily become 7-12 if he shows up pissed off enough.
